balthus from europe on 2001-10-20 17:31 [#00043955]

listened on cdnow to parts of drukqs. there's a lot what
sounds dark and great... the prepared piano pieces are
awesome. almost everything sounded great... and new. it's
strange that most reviews pointed out that it's more of the
same, so i expected this somehow. but it's not true. there
are things which sound new and are new. i really wonder why
an album of the strokes was sold as 'new great rock album',
as original, as a 'rock is not dead' proof. it is more kind
of a rock-in-the-60s-and70s pastiche. one track was
completely in the style of lou reed and velvet underground,
really a cheap rip-off. and then aphex does new things and
they say in review he does more of the same.

well, aphex had a lot of prepared pianos in his last albums
and ep.s. i liked the prepared piano in polynomial-c, flim,
and nannou. the critics are right. and guitars in rock are
new and i'm richard d. james.

DblHeLX from moon on 2001-10-20 17:33 [#00043957]

'cant touch this' ISN'T an aphex twin song??!!
holy crap!

balthus from europe on 2001-10-20 17:34 [#00043958]

of course i was ironic. listened to the excerpt of the last
track of cd2 of drukqs. amazing. dark. and today i saw the
album in shops, and had not enough money with me... ugh.

DblHeLX from moon on 2001-10-20 17:35 [#00043959]

WOW! any chance i could find it in america?

balthus from europe on 2001-10-20 17:36 [#00043960]

i don't know. i guess it's now earlier released in australia
and europe.

balthus from europe on 2001-10-20 17:36 [#00043961]

maybe it's out in the usa now, too.

DblHeLX from moon on 2001-10-20 17:37 [#00043962]

yeah but do you think if i begged really good they'd go 'in
the back' and get me a copy? the manager at tower records
has done that for me before.

balthus from europe on 2001-10-20 17:40 [#00043964]

it's a great album. it's weird, not mainstream. i guess it's
now a very conservative time. awful empty mainstream films,
awful empty mainstream music. but drukqs is a great
exception. no wonder why most music magazines don't like it.

balthus from europe on 2001-10-20 17:42 [#00043965]

really? then you should get your copy at tower records...

daveed angel from home on 2001-10-20 17:47 [#00043966]

did anyone hear richard playing cant touch this last sunday
??

Gonzola from stockholm on 2001-10-20 20:13 [#00043975]

yes Balthus, i think so too. almost everything now is
mainstream and really disgusting...
i'm glad that aphex has done something experimental and not
so accessible...

.PEACE

My fav song is obviosly "Vordhosbn"
its amazing

beetlebum on 2001-10-21 05:21 [#00044065]

for real, "Vordhosbn" is fucking mad..
good shit

LeMoN from penisville on 2001-10-21 05:44 [#00044066]

Funny, seems like Vorhosbn is nearly unanimously the
favorite off the album, I myself tend to play it most out of
the entire album, along with all the short piano/musical
box/etc. pieces that are all interesting, 54 Cymru Beats,
Ziggomatic 17, and Mt. Saint Micheal.

Byron from under your bed on 2001-10-21 15:54 [#00044106]

My favorites are:
Omgyjya-Switch7
Hy a Scullyas Lyf Adhagrow
Vordhosbn
Mt St Michel + Saint Michaels Mix
Kesson Dalef
Kladfvgbung Micshk

balthus from europe on 2001-10-22 12:22 [#00044322]

this is his best album, and as good as the eps dhonkey
rhubarb, girl boy, come to daddy and windowlicker. and there
is development in his style. his music is now more serious,
and still melancholic. i love that album.

CD 1 my favourite tracks are...

jynweythek (richard's prepared piano pieces are as great as
john cage's, such as 'a valentine out of season' or 'music
for marcel duchamp')

mt saint michel+saint michaels mount (it's like the
equation track, but melodic, with a beautiful melancholic
tranquil section, and i love the voice)

gwarek2 (like one of the best tracks of sawII, but even
better, more varied, the screams are great, it reminds me
somewhat of bruce nauman's works)

hy a scullas lyf adhagrow

kesson dalef (background melody is philip glass but the
other one is very much like jazz... and it's so short. maybe
my absolute favourite on the first disc)

balthus from europe on 2001-10-22 12:37 [#00044328]

CD 2...

all piano/prepared piano tracks

btoum-roumada (maybe that's also a prepared piano?)

meltphase 6

lornaderek (that's nice)

Richard D. James on 2001-10-22 12:43 [#00044329]

Break Stuff or Counterfeit.

Archrival from NY on 2001-10-22 13:36 [#00044335]

I love all of them but jynwethek, Mt St Mchael, 54 Cymru and
m absolute favourite Omgiya Switch7.

Ziggomatic gets dope after 3min.

ted maul from prison on 2001-10-22 15:30 [#00044373]

AVRIL 14 th is the one

Vordhosbn and cock/ver 10 are good... Much similar to
In-sides by Orbital ? the BOX has clear reflection in
Vordhosbn.
