By The Handsome Family
I saw a deer limp across A supermarket parking lot Last night as I drove home from work Old men sleeping in the dirt
Abandoned buildings full of smoke Children jumping from the roof Cars in ditches leaking blood Rivers full of drowning thugs
But as the sun fell between The leaning buildings and the street A moment came 'tween day and night Painted soft in golden light
The crooked street shining cold And no one fell asleep alone No one fell asleep alone No one fell asleep alone
What do you suppose Rennie means by "no one fell asleep alone"? Are they not alone because they are haunted? Is it a metaphor for dying, and we all die so we are not alone in our fate? Or is it that you don't think of the lonely people when you are with someone?
Beautiful song anyways... it's on the Twilight album.

Ah, or is it that I fell asleep alone and I am no one, a nobody?

I think what the twat is trying to convey is that he is a bible bashing knob who looks at all the horrible things in life but feels smug and content that God will always be with him.
