Aphex Twin - 8 questions...

I've already posted these questions but if there are any
other AFX fans who want to answer them, don't bother.
I'm writing a thesis about James so all answers would help
me a lot...

the questions:

1. Do you think growing up in Cornwall effected Aphex Twins
music? Would the music have been different if the had grown
up in the big city?

2. What music do you think Richard D. James listens to?

3. Do you think he somehow uses the music he likes in his
own productions? And which artists you think are important
for his music?

4. How do links with music (such as the music of John Cage,
Stockhausen Phillip Glass, ...) influence your perception of
Aphex Twin? Do you take his music more, equally or less
serious as without such knowledge?

5. What do you think about Aphex Twin in comparison to other
Warp artists? Does Aphex Tin has more influence on the
so-called Intelligent Dance Music than the other Warp
artists?

6. How big is his influence on today’s electronic music?
Or do you believe that the influence of James’ music is
overestimated?

7. What could be the motivation behind James’ melination
to create confusion about his personality and his music?

8. Do you think Aphex Twin gets more respect as a result of
these confusions?

1. Yes because music is a translation of your personality
and your personality is effected by your upbringing and
socioeconomic and geographic circumstances.

2. Probably loads of different stuff like most people who
like music.

3. Do you think he somehow uses the music he likes in his
own productions? And which artists you think are important
for his music?

3. I think, again like most people he probably draws from a
lot of inlfuences. It goes without saying that he has and
will continue to be influenced by other people.

4. I don't take music seriously, if it makes me feel good I
listen to it.

5. I think he opened up a lot of doors for electronic music
makers, and is a very good musician who has obviously
influenced electronic music a great deal in its short
history. However I do think his impact has been exagerated
by the media to a certain extent.

8. See above...I wrote that before I read this question :)

7. Do you think a boring red head how makes bleepy tune
would be welcomed with open arms by the media. He needed an
angle and he managed to execute it perfectly. I don't even
think he really is wierd it just says what he knows the
media wants to hear from him.

8. Do you think Aphex Twin gets more respect as a result of

these confusions?

8. No, because at the end of the day if his music wasn't
first class he wouldn't get any respect from anyone involved
in the scene itself who see the his comical actions for what
they are...a promotional tool. He is a top draw musician
and if anything the general level of respect he gets is less
than he deserves.

1. Do you think growing up in Cornwall effected Aphex Twins

music? Would the music have been different if the had grown

up in the big city?

-he'd probably have more friends.

2. What music do you think Richard D. James listens to?

-luke vibert, tod dockstader, ween, les baxter, merzbow and
lotsa old school acid.

3. Do you think he somehow uses the music he likes in his
own productions? And which artists you think are important
for his music?

-luke vibert tought him how to smell grooves. so that would
be a yes.

4. How do links with music (such as the music of John Cage,

Stockhausen Phillip Glass, ...) influence your perception of

Aphex Twin? Do you take his music more, equally or less
serious as without such knowledge?

-makes me want to check out the pioneers (cage, satie,
stockhausen)

5. What do you think about Aphex Twin in comparison to other

Warp artists? Does Aphex Tin has more influence on the
so-called Intelligent Dance Music than the other Warp
artists?

-pass

6. How big is his influence on today’s electronic music?
Or
do you believe that the influence of James’ music is
overestimated?

-it's massive.

7. What could be the motivation behind James’ melination
to
create confusion about his personality and his music?

-he does it for fun.

8. Do you think Aphex Twin gets more respect as a result of

these confusions?

-perhaps.
