how do you rate draft 7.30 as of this moment? no need to give comments on the album, which track you like or dislike, how the album doesnt sound like your favorite ae album etc... just the rating, out of 10.
thanks.
i'll bring this thread up in maybe 6 months or so, just to see how people's opinion will have changed.

I'm pretty sure a numbered rating is entirely meaningless, unless it can be compared relative to other numbered ratings. So are we comparing this to every album we've EVER heard, or every AUTECHRE track we've ever heard etc. The scores would be different depending on what it is measured relative to.

I disagree.
because this is a poll based on opinion, not fact, it will ALWAYS be meaningless. you can't really compare it because of this.
it is always based on whether a person thinks the record is really bad (= 1) to really good (= 10), whether they have even heard other ae-releases or not.
it is possible to rate it on its own merits as an album.

perhaps youre under the impression this thread is scientifically valid? dont know why.
rate it in comparison to whatever you want. usually when you rate something, it's in comparison to everything that's comparable by using common sense. this shouldnt be a demanding task, unless one's lacking common sense. obviously (at least to me) you shouldnt rate this particular album in comparison to all of ae's material only. if that's your definition of personally rating an album, then it would be impossible to rate an artist's first release unless there at least a second release that's been released.
rating different things using numbers is widely used. 0 meaning it's fucking crap, 10 meaning it's absolutely mindblowing. everything in between is evenly scaled between these extremes, given the fact that subjective rating scales are proportionate.

What's wrong with sensible marking...4.5 is an average mark for an average album, the most I would ever give an album is 9 and there are probably only a few albums I would give that to.
