Woo Hoo!!! New Order are just amazing....My fave song is quite possibly Perfect Kiss/True Faith. I purchased Substance recently...still haven't stopped listening to it. Regret is one of my fave tunes of theirs.

Oh God yeah, Regret is a perfect slice of pop... New Order is just a shimmering tasty pop-song dispenser. Leave Me Alone, Blue Monday, Bizarre Love Triangle, Ceremony, The Village, Love Vigilantes... arghhhhhhhhh my head is exploding.

I kinda like 'Movement'.(Not many people do).
It's as close to N.O.sounding like Joy Division as you'll hear...(hehe...)

I do! Dreams Never End is a wicked start to a wicked album, they were clearly stuck in Ian's shadow though.

Yaz was the American name taken by Yazoo, a British duo made up of former Depeche Mode synthesizer player Vince Clarke and singer Alison Moyet (b.Jun 18, 1961). The two stayed together only about a year and a half (1982-1983), but that was long enough to score four British hit singles and two top-selling albums. Moyet then went solo and Clarke eventually formed another successful duo, Erasure.

my favorite new order song is "true faith" becuase it's fun to sing and it sounds good. new order is tough for me to like since i'm such a fan of joy division, it's hard to accept what they became.

I really like that song Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division, but I haven't heard anything else by them...
I've also bought my first Depeche Mode album today... Violator... I'm really enjoying this 80's techno type pop music now... yes, Regret is from the 90's, but still... :)

Hop to it, ASAP. It won't be an expensive endeavor with just THREE albums you need (2 LPS and a compilation).
I'm in an 80's pop mode too. I even listened to an entire Hall and Oates album yesterday... that was surreal and I feel funny.
Speaking of surreal, I'd LOVE to conduct a seance (sp?) and ask Ian Curtis what he thinks/thought of New Order.

ian curtis is spinning in his grave i'm sure.. listen to closer and then listen to new order's club hits... they're not bad, it's just such a huge difference from what JD was about. good thing they changed their name!
p.s. i don't know if funk will like joy division...

A lot of the same elements are there, at least until Republic or so. Hook's basslines and Sumner's guitar lines really have the same feel in both bands... same thudding drums mixed high... but yeah, totally different tone so who knows... although the Order has some pretty dark album tracks. Little Miss Mullet should download a couple of JD tracks and find out. Because you can't judge them on Love Will Tear Us Apart, that's for sure...

As a huge Joy Division/New Order fan i can say that NO's new stuff is mediocre at best..
Substance is good to start out on..it has two JD tracks on it..and some others that are essential cause they're produced by Hannett.

no i haven't seen here are the young men except for one clip (decades i think), i'd love to see it in full.
funksta listen to clips of 'unknown pleasures' on amazon.com or bn.com. it just doesn't strike me as something you'd like. it's kinda cold, slowed down british punk. then the next album is even more cold and depressed but with more electronics. this might sound cool to you in print but wait till you hear some of it, it's very different from new order or pretty much anything (including "love will tear us apart"). on the other hand, i hope you DO like it, cos they were a fantastic band.

that Decades is only the intro to the video, the recorded version with slow down footage of the PLan K gig in Brussells (which isn't on the video).
Closer isn't all depressing..i find theres nothing more uplifting than listening to 'Isolation' full blast

By the way, theres a version of The Eternal on the Preston '80 gig, and it goes on for 9 minutes or so; it has this steam powered synth sound that Barney has - it reminds me of Parhelic Triangle, it has the same feel.

Maybe not to you, but they are to me. Well, most of it. Even Isolation gets me down, with its jaunty synth!
The only one on there that I don't find depressing is Heart and Soul, I think.
Newf (and everyone that likes... stuff) - great Joy Division site right here, information overload
