Do they rule or what?

Am just listening to the classic "Maya" from the glory days
of ambient (as it was called then) back in 94..

I notice it has been re-released on Disco Gecko, apparently
set up by Mr De Gaia Toby Marks to release his own records
(presumably since he has realised nobody else is interested
in releasing his kind of dated prog-ambient sound).

Which is a shame becuase when I listen to it I feel like the
last 10 years never happened...

Any other fans out there?

iperonsally love the man, or at least what i have heard from
him...i have igizeh, and the magical sounds...along with odd
tracks here and there on compilations...harvey and the old
ones is pure bliss, genius, same goes for the soraing vocals
on obsidian...

Last train to Llhasa is good - I have the quardruple vinyl
version of that which is a nightmare - you have to change
the record 8 times to hear the whole thing..

Good record though.

The track Lai Lah on Maya - listening to now at work -
classic!

I've only heard one track, Drippy, off of the Pi soundtrack,
and it's brilliant. Don't know why I haven't checked any of
the other stuff out.

Look for the Lai Lai track on slsk or whatever.. its so
awesome.

Reminds me of being at the old Whirl-Y-Gig club in London if
anybody else is old enough to remember that place...

ill have that triple vinyl if you dont want it!

drippy is an dexcellent track aswell, more upbeat than most
of it

maya is pure class though, his best work i reckon. how it
all merges from one track to the next i really like that

Not triple, there was a limited version of Last Train that
was quadruple!

Really, quadruple records are pretty unnecessary.. Loads of
records were getting too long in about 94, I think that is
why Aphex put out RDJ album that is so short - about 35 mins
or something I think.

sorry thats what i meant

i have those extra tracks somewhere (i think)

there was a ltd triple cd to go with the normal double cd
which is also quite rare

drukqs was also 4x, totally unnessesary imo, as 2 of the
records even played at 45rpm honking the price up to 23 quid
if i remember correctly

but that banco lp is very long as is saw2 i dont think you
could fit it on anything less, unlike drukqs which could
have easily gone on 3

I am always a bit mystified why this kind of stuff is known
as ambient dub..

I am a big dub fan and have a pretty large collections of
old dub records, but have never really seen the similarity..
I think Banco type stuff has more in common with trance /
techno than dub..

actually i KNOW we won't have that cd. i just checked and
it's from 1994. despite being around since the '60s we have
no cd's newer than 1996 :( pick something from a more recent
album (late 90s specifically)... pick a specific song please

Lots of stealing and breakage I take it...

i have no idea.. it seems like they sold all their pre-1996
cd's or something. i'd ask, but no one i know (including
professors) has been there since before 1996...

a lot of 1996-1999 cd's are missing, and that's cos of
theft. i've stolen some cd's myself but only a few, and only
ones no one would notice. plus it's half out of spite.

Seti from Igizeh is quite good I think.. I dont have any of
the other cds with me so cant check but I think that track
is pretty cool..
