Aphex Twin - #19

OK I admit that on april 1st I tried to start a rumour
about an Aphex track called "Black Calx" that was total
bollocks. (no-one went for it anyway)

BUT this one is real! Its on a compilation called
"Excursions in Ambience" on astralwerks records. Anyone else
know it? Is it rare?

with me.

It's a track that is only on the vinyl release of
Selected Ambient Works Volume II, and it's better
known as "stone in focus".

Anyway... back to Black Calx. Did you know the vinyl version
has a secret loop after the run out on side 2?

why would he call it 19 and not 'stone in focus'?

Because it was Track 19 on the album and the album didn't
have "official" names for the tracks did it? They were make
up by filesharers.

i thought they were named, and the names were
pictures...this one being a pic of a stone....in focus!

No they were definately untitled.

Yeah technically all those tracks are represented by small
pictures. None have actual names. Hence on Blue Jam they are
refered to as SAWII CD2 Track 1 or whatever.

what about the cd-release?
are they unnamed too?

i find the names quite fitting by the way

all the saw2 track names are unoffical (except for "blue
calx").

the track was named #19 for purposes of inclusion on the
compilation "excursions in ambience volume three," the
whole of which is worth seeking out. the track is like a
long, warm hug. very friendly and sweet. hard to believe
that there are afx fans who haven't heard it.

i'd also like to note that online many compilations afx
appears on, this one is still in print and relatively cheap
($12-13). it's also on astralwerks, which goes to show that
label isn't all wank. (i also like the instrumental hip-hop
comp they put out last year, plus earlier Air and how can we
forget mu-ziq).

Yes, try to listen before you buy. I think a lot of it is
junk. The Aphex track is definitely the standout.

The Seefeel one is much better IMO.

You're insane. It's EASILY the best out of the 4-volume
series...

which instrumental hip-hop album might that be?
contributors?

It's a bit heavy on the [spacey|new age|ancestral memory]
ambient spectrum. Not really my cup of tea.
