which albums from 2002 and 2003 have REALLY had staying
power with you? i don't mean something you got and have been
playing a lot recently, but what do you come back to?

from last year MCA really, really, REALLY did some good, as
i really think the 2002 albums from the roots, talib kweli,
common, and blackalicious are 4 of the best hip-hop albums
in a decade.

what hasn't had staying power with me has been dj shadow,
eminem, cinematic orchestra, BoC, vsnares, or amon tobin.
all great releases but just not albums i am constantly
coming back to.

this could change, of course; i didn't listen to the massive
attack album in a while but now that i have been i feel like
i've been missing out. the tracks 3D sings are phenomenal,
you just have to adapt to his voice and be open minded
(instead of expecting the sounds of earlier albums).

Avalanches - Since I left you
it was released in 2000 but it definitly has the kind of
staying power that you're talking about

that avalanches joint seems to be somewhat of a slow burner
/ steady climber... a lot of good cd's are like that, which
is cool cos it gives you hope that good music will always be
discovered by people

my favorite 2000 album that i bought in 2002 was dead prez's
"let's get free"... dunno why i waited 2 years, i remember
oggling the cover many a time in early 2000. quite easily
one of my top 4 favorite hip-hop albums and an undisputable
classic by all means (lyrical, musical, overall style, even
the aforementioned album design)

well, I haven't really bought that many albums from 2003 yet
this year... BUT, I do think this new Aphex double cd set,
26 mixes will have staying power with me... it's real
nice...

but, albums from any year that I've bought this year that
have staying power, well, I think Confield by Autechre
will... I already think it's fantastic... the first three
tracks are amazing! And yeah, I love that Avalanches
album...

The album that has had the best staying power for me is,
*drum role* PASSION!!!! Part of the reason why it's my
favorite album is because I've listened to it so much, and I
still get the same feelings now as I did when I bought it
like 3 years ago... amazing stuff!

that cinematic orchestra album is fantastic... I don't
listen to it all the time, but I do every now and then and
it's killer... especially the track All Things to All Men,
which I must say is my favorite rap tune of ALL time... just
love it...

and Geogaddi is still amazing imo... again, I don't listen
to it constantly, but every now and then I do, and it's
still great...

see, with me there are really no albums I can listen to
constantly forever... I usually go in spurts... like right
now I'm in a more chilled mood, so I'm really into BoC,
etc... so, staying power for me is not an album I can listen
to everyday for 5 years, cause for me it doesn't exist...
but it's an album that I can buy, get into, put away, and
put back on in a few weeks and still be blowen away...
repeating that forever...

i have to agree with you that Geogaddi as a whole, lacked
staying power... but tracks like Sunshine Recorder, 1969,
Dawn Chorus, and Music is Math, are easily some of the best
tracks of the year, not to mention tracks i come back to
again and again.

what tracks did he play on, and what instrument?

heh, I don't have the booklet that came with it to look as
my cd was washed out one time in our washer, ruining the
booklet... I really have to get that new remastered edition
sometime...
