Chrono Cross Soundtrack

This PS1 game has the best soundtrack ever among video
games, and that's saying a lot. The Japanese dudes that
compose these things are genuine modern day heros,
undervalued here but Gods in their homeland. With good
reason.

The Chrono series is buried under all the Final Fantasy
hype, but FF is SHIT compared to Chrono. Trigger outdueled
FF6 for best SNES game ever, and Cross blew FF8 adn 9 (the
beginning of the FF decline) out of the water. I've no doubt
that the third one is going to level the competition,
whenever it comes out.

But the focus of my rant is the music.

Home Village of Arni
Time's Scar
Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World
Shadow's End Forest
Time's Grasslands
Voyage- Another World (unreal)
Sailing- Home World
The Brink of Death
Chronomantic
Chronopolis
Another Arni Village

Unlike FF, no midi here... all BRILLIANTLY produced, lush,
exquisite masterpieces.

Man, a lot of them bring tears to my eyes, but then again I
am a gayish little pussy. You need to hear them. Hunt these
down, trust me. Please. I have all three discs on Soulseek,
so there you go.

I made a topic about this before and it got little hits.
Don't be fucking stupid. Don't pass this offer up.

Chrono Cross is the exception to spineless Japanese game
soundtracks. That hybid Celtic stuff makes my heart
flutter.

Boomshakalaka, the Celtic groove is exactly what gives it
the edge over generic cookie cutter RPG tunes. The sound of
the strings being strummed on some of the town themes is
just so warm... mmm. The ''shhnk'' as the guitar player
slides up and down the strings... you won't find that in
MIDI FF land.

Truly. Chrono Cross's music is a breath of fresh air from
all those trademark RPG synthesizers that sound like they're
slathered with hot velveeta and bubbling semen... euuugh
Have the composers scored anything else?

Is my sentence structure awkward? It's 3 AM and I can't
tell if what I'm writing makes sense or not.

chrono cross really is a superb game, has so many more
things in it than ff8&9, like you said.
the music is indeed very grandiose, some of the very best
orchestrated in a video game ever.....
ill check some stuff out later amn, those songs are great,
they rival the ff7 goodness.....(ahhh...the Turk's theme,
and Sephiroth battle).......

Reflex- No, it's just my fave tracks... the whole thing is 3
CDs(!), I've got them all on SLSK.

And for Klau- Yasunori Mitsuda

He also did the highly acclaimed Xenogears games, and has
his own Celtic tinged solo album... I want to hear that. And
nothing will stop me.

Roy- hehe, CV3 is pretty awesome... the low, ominous tracks
with the big basslines are badass, especially for NES. If
it's not the Japanese soundtrack though, you're missing
it... that one has fangs.

Wow, I had no idea he scored Xenogears. I wonder if he did
Xenosaga too.. Let's rondevouz after you illegally download
'Sailing to the World' - I want to know what you think.

What's your *~WITHOUT A DOUBT, ALL-TIME FAVORITE~* videogame
song?

Klau's :
Opening theme from the original NES Metroid. A perfect
onset to the mystery and terror that lay beyond..

1- Chrono Trigger- ''Peaceful Day''- after you wake up, the
music that's playing while you walk around town (NOT Guardia
Fair)

2- second level in Super Castlevania 4, tribal beat and
eerie synths

3- Super Metroid- Second Brinstar theme, with freaky piano
arpeggios and high pitched wind melody

4- Contra 3- industrial level, TOTAL FUCKING ROCK OUT LET'S
KILL ALL THOSE FUCKING ALIENS FLAME THROWER GGGWWWRRRAHH

5- Mega Man 2- Metal Man's complex intertwining synth
patterns, orgiastic

6- Sonic 2- Aquatic Ruin Zone... just because...

7- Super Mario RPG- ''Fight Against an Armed Boss'' PHAT
beats for an SNES game

8- Donkey Kong Country- the underwater levels, emptys my
bladder

"8- Donkey Kong Country- the underwater levels, emptys my

Those levels are a state of being. I used to swim up to a
safe corner, turn the lights off, and burn scented candles..

yasunori mitsuda did wonderful rendition albums:

chrono trigger - the brink of time
xenogears - cried

both are live instrumentation with electronics. the brink of
time is a jazzy mix. its like mitsuda, biosphere, and plaid
teamed up with lounge musicians for a few songs. its nice.
creid is more traditional celtic, though i find it a bit
boring.

not really enjoying all this FF bashing left and right
though. i still really like nobou uematsu's work. ESPECIALLY
final fantasy 7. that soundtrack is really something else.
though he has definitely been dying down since ff9 i think
(yes, i really enjoy ff8 and its soundtrack, god forbid)

he didnt do half the work in ffx, and when he did you knew
it was him cuz he just keeps doing the same stuff. square is
overworking him.

a link of interest for anyone who enjoys rpg music. these are
psf files, and they are direct dumps from psx discs. the
quality is EXACTLY the same that of the discs they sell, and
they take up about 80 percent less space. its really
remarkable. ff7 is exactly the same if not better.

you need a plugin, but its worth it i think.

Yeah, add me on Soulseek, revolverjgw, and search

D\P-Z\Videogame Music\Chrono Cross, I've got all three
discs. Actually, it's kind of easy to find on there, a few
people have it there.

Disassemble- wicked, I didn't know Zophar had those
soundtracks, thanks! Is there anywhere similar to get
NON-RPG PS1 (or 2) music? I wanted the Syphon Filter and
Symphony of the Night Soundtracks, among others.

Yes, he did do Xenosaga, magnificently...
and in front of the London Philharmonic Orchestra
nonetheless.

I believe he will be doing all of the rest of the episodes
as well.

what about silent hill/metal gear soundtracks?? and also,
what about nobuo eumatsu sitting out for ffx-2?

Harry Gregson Williams did a masterful job on MGS2, yeah...
and Silent Hill 2 has an awesome claustrophobic
soundtrack... really reminds me of SAW2. That game is a
total mindfuck, not cheap shock scares either.

I have the soundtrack, but it doesn't have the guitar track
that's playing during the very start where he's talking
about his wife... the acoustic arpeggios. What the fuck?

have any of you heard that jazz remake of chrono trigger's
soundtrack called "in the brink of time"? pretty cool stuff

silent hill series is composed by akira yamaoka. the music
is fucking remarkable at least. i remember hearing the music
while playing the first one, nothing like it.

the official silent hill soundtracks leave out a lot of
material, some of which i really like.

i recently heard a bunch of new silent hill music (silent
hill 3) and it is excellent yet again id say. theres an
official sh3 site now though i forgot it. its all japanese,
some sort of interactive dealy. your guide is a stuffed
bunny with blood all over its mouth. classy eh!

this site is USUALLY up, though at this posting it
seems to be down. check periodically though, for it has each
silent hill complete soundtracks. this is music from the
game not heard on the OST. they have both silent hill's,
they are direct dumps i believe. nice quality, though the
track fades suck horrendously

still worth a checking out. hopefully they will be back up.

final fantasy VII has the best soundtrack of all time, and,
oddly, turned me on to electronic music. yeah.
