Little Fluffy Clouds is composed entirely of samples from
other records...that makes it OK by me...

You should try Origami Galaktika's "Stjernevandring/Eesti
Lilled Silma Süda". Great hypnotising and very organic
sounding ambient. At Jester Records you will find some
samples.

I would have to agree with Hearts of Space. I'm finally got
the HOS with Aphex in it.

yes, most of these people arent listing things you actually

not what you asked.

ENO!!!!!!!!

I highly recommend Stars of the Lid, but it might be tricky
to find in Finland.

Hey man, ive been suggesting lots of ambient, different
types too, a lot of what I told you is pure gold as far as
ambient goes, if you want NO beats first and then move on,
Check out Biospheres Substrata...... FIRST. Believe me. Take
what I told you before and what some others said into heart.

offline MrGerbik from United States on 2003-04-29 19:03 [#00677215]

Obviously you need to own Biosphere - Substrata. No two
ways about it.

And you can't mention good ambient without everyone yelling
at you to get Brain Eno... there is a reason for this
obviously. Music for Airports, The Pearl, Thursday
Afternoon, Apollo Atmospheres and Soundtracks...

Other ambient favs of mine:

Fennesz - Endless Summer
Oval & Christophe Charles - Dok
Microstoria - Model 3, Step 2
KLF - Chill Out

im with InvertedWhale...i think stars of the lid are
amazing. for the longest time i didnt like a lot of ambient
because it was either way too synthy or it was something
like "space travel jupiter orbit moon base 9000". which is a
bit picky, but i was looking for a certain type of sound.
thats when i picked up the ballasted orchestra by sotl,
completely slapped me across the face. and the fact that it
was all done with guitars on a 4 track recorder.

you can order works from kranky records on amazon, as well.

i recently bought music for nitrious oxide (their first
release) on ebay. top quality, though its a bit crude and
dark, but still very excellent.

in any case, yeah. cant recommend SOTL enough.

Although I've already posted my picks, I can say with 94%
complete certainty that the album you're looking for is
Biosphere's Substrata. If I'm incorrect, then I'm an idiot.

Substrata is probobly a m u s t.
But Tibbar, I already sayd in the first post that I own
Music for airports, but that it´s almost too I don´t know
not New Age but hmm... maybe it could be more dark or
something. I like Music for airports but... Maybe other eno
stuff is differrent. I once heard leeks hills and it sounded
ok! maybe On Land is the thing to get... Thanks anyway!

he covers alot of ground... not all his ambient sounds the
same, which is why it is exciting... stuff like apollo or
shutov assembly sounds nothign like music for airports

i read an interview with brian mcbride of SOTL explaining
the track names on the ballasted orchestra

i guess the song stemmed from a song adam wiltzie's
grandmother used to hum to him when he a child.

which is really weird considering what taphead sounds like.
if my grandmother started to hum "taphead" id get severly
creeped

Check out the 'Flurescence EP' by Spacetime Continuum if you
want some good ambience. It's damn good; some of the best
infact, IMO.

The album can be seen here.

In the same vein of that release I also highly suggest you
track down the songs Over and Out and Sunrise
by Young American Primitive. Those two are unheard of gems.
