Pink Floyd - The Wall... and other "concept albums"...

so... am i 24 years late ^^;

the first time i saw The Wall (the movie), it was some years
ago, i had a sleepless night because of how much it
disturbed me - i couldn't tell exactly how it disturbed me,
but it did!

i downloaded the album a few days ago and...
well, musically, it has few very good parts and a lot of
deceiving parts - sometimes the music just doesn't seem to
fit the lyrics at all, like they didn't how what to put
musically on the lyrics they wrote! and even conceptually,
it is somewhat flawed on the 'dictator' part... this part
seems to end before it really began and again the music
doesn't seem to fit the lyrics at all... - it seems like a
lot of the "classic" albums out there, which everyone
praises, are overrated!
other modern concept albums i know, NIN's Downard Spiral or
Marilyn Manson's Antichrist Superstar, are better conceived
i think, and musically superior - maybe it is my own opinion
only, and maybe that's because they were inspired by the
older concept albums...

but still, The Wall is a strong album for how much i can
relate to it. i sure have a wall, too... not complete, but
it is there. and the story itself, if you don't look in the
details too much, is really like life can be.

what do you think of it?
how many "concept albums" do you know?

The Avalanches - Since I left you <-- sounds like a concept
album to me.

Rad stuff too.

the wall really makes me anxious. my bf is a huge floyd fan
so i get constant floyds. as for other concept albums, many
of the progrock biggies 'back then' made them but i don't
see the point in listing because no-one will listen anyway.

for me music has the right to children could be a concept
album..

Some great concept albums- The Who- Tommy, The Who Sell Out,
Quadrophenia and the aborted Lifehouse.

The Kinks- Arthur, Village Green Preservation Society

The Beach Boys- Pet Sounds

Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention- Freak Out!

Maybe OK Computer...

Sgt. Pepper started out as one, but it didn't turn out that
way.

Most Pink Floyd and Roger Waters works are some kind of
concept.

Genesis- The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

Some Dream Theater and other cheesy metal groups always make
''concept albums'', though I tend to... avoid them. And
Rush, Yes, prog bands like that.

I love Floyd.

But The Wall is an atrocious album. Poorly written, and some
of the worst overproduction I've ever heard.
I haven't listened to it in about a year.

The movie and their music is awesome. Last week a school set
up their interpretation of The Wall, and it owned.

My favorite of theirs is Selling England by the Pound

oh, by the way, I think The Wall is amazing!!!! The music,
as well as the story and lyrics... good stuff!! I remember
when I first bought it, I went to my nans right after, and I
would listen to the whole album before going to bed... it's
a real nice and theraputic listen I think...

Pink Floyd are awesome.

Keep in mind that the movie was flawed by the fact that the
director, the producer, and Roger Waters had different ideas
on how it should turn out.

Musically, the album doesn't quite make it because most of
the songs have the same riff/notes; [note; tone up;
semi-tone up]. Which is cool, but gets boring after a
while.

'Animals' is awesome. Give it a few listens. 'Dark Side...'
and before are all amazing.

As for concept albums, 'Thick As A Brick' by Jethro Tull
definitely deserves a mention.
