Should we legalise prrostitution?

Being me the obvious answerr is Yes! But looking at the
widerr picture, I'd also like a females point of view, do
you think it should be? This may seem like anotherr sex
obsessed thrread, but come on its easterr think of the kids.

But I rreally am interrested because the topic arrose among
frriends a few days back and therre werre mixed opinions.

I mean in the Uk its illegal, but maybe not wherre you
live.

i would think prostitutes would probably make more money if
it stays illegal. and i doubt that legalizing it would turn
many on to the profession, so what is the point?

i figure, it's going to happen anyway..so why not just make
it legal in some areas, and have it be controlled and
restricted by the government so they could make money on it
for tax dollars, and the women would be safer because it
would be in designated buildings with security and whatnot,
instead of out on the streets somewhere, where they could
easily become a victim of a violent crime..

who will want to file for a prostitution license? i bet the
application fee will be huge. nobody will want to pay taxes
on their earnings. people will say screw that shit and do
it anyways.

Currently, prostitutes are forced to work underground. If
it was made legal then the government could ensure the
safety of both the prostitute and the client (manditory HIV
tests, government regulated brothels).

i agree, in theory, but there will always be people who
don't want to take the state mandated test to be certified
as a prostitute legally, pay the $150 registration fee,
don't want to be bothered by monthly std checks, etc etc
etc. it is a risky business. but if the gov't skips these
things, they aren't doing enough.

hmm, i think prostitution is decriminal here. pimping is
illegal. the new gov are working on this issue.

i do think a person should have the right to sell whatever
is theirs. making it illegal just leads to trouble (at least
here, young women come from russia or estonia to get a
better living and end up in shady brothels being hated by
everyone, we actually saved a russian woman once from
getting beaten up because she was 'disgusting'). my point
being, illegality leads to more illegality and therefore
things should be made more legal but controlled. so i agree
with 3rdball.
