Can you take this test and not logically contradict
yourself or be forced into an absurd position?

click

I made it through without a scratch, naturally. :-)

:: high fives zaphod ::

Has it been posted here before? I thought I first saw it on
infidels...

Foolosophy is often the enemy of common sense. I consider
myself a naive realist. e.g., certainly, on its
deepest level reality may be composed of nothing but chaotic
whorls of nothingness, but by god I'll kick your ass if you
touch my computer.

ouch. i got fucked. but some of the questions are rather
unclear. as in...the phrasing. i was perfect up until the
very end. rather disappointing. eh. ah well. i never claimed
to be captain religion, anyways.

i got hit twice. it was a matter of not thinking about the
questions enough though, not me actually contradicting
myself. that is, i didn't realize what it was i was saying,
the contradictions i made wouldn't have come from own mind.

ditto, but I see where the logical contradiction comes in.

I don't think everything is so cut and dry, but it is
interesting to see the logical equation behind thinking that
is how it all works, perfeclty in neat little rows.

thanks fleet

yeah. the phrasing in lots of the questions was really weird
and it threw me off. i think they did that on purpose. =/

it is interesting in concept... what would be truly
revolutionary if there was something you could enter entire
unique statements into. this something would be some sort
of ligual/logic master and just point out the errors. there
would be no need for debate! but, if such a thing were
possible, would we have such a diversity of philosophies?

We are such machines as you describe. We only need to be
tuned.

I don't think there's an absolute formula for arriving at
the truth, but recognizing common fallacies is a step
towards weeding out oodles of nonsense.

If everyone familiarized themselves with the classic
fallacies and learned to recognized them easily, bandwidth
use on discussion groups would drop to 5% of what it is now.

It's interesting to take it again and give "wrong" answers
and see why they think they're "wrong".

I took 1 hit and 1 bullet, bad news for me :) I think me and
ambsace got screwed in the same fasion, the questions we're
unlcear and I'm really fucking high, so thats not very fair.

This is a great game. Can really improve logics and view on
the world. It's not a religious quiz whatsoever.
I got hit once and bite zero bullets.

ideally people would just tune in and not have memorize bs
but could rather smell it. information is increasing,
computers are for memory, brains are for ecstatic frontal
lobe popping! click your amygdala!

That brings to mind something I saw last week on Scientific
American Frontiers - Alan Alda was visiting the media lab at
MIT and was shown a headmounted display for space suits.

The idea was that astronauts may have to perform maintenance
tasks many months after they've received training for them,
on a relatively large number of different systems. So the
helmet mounted display could walk them through the steps.

Alan Alda put the helmet on and watched and said, "That's
really great; I get the feeling that even I could follow
these instructions".

The problem is, if you treat your brain as a big strokable
pleasure-glans and rely on the machines where you've
offloaded all your knowledge, what is there to set you apart
from any other piece of human meat?

We may see a day, and soon, where even highly skilled
technical workers are just an info-module riding on an
interchangeable meat vehicle. And you'll be glad to get the
work too.

I thought it was dumb. you have to be specific whether you
think god exists or not, without being provided any
definition of what is meant by god.

yeah, not to say that we should abolish memory or
rationalization. but i do think there is general abundance
of stupid arguments (if your good enough, you can almost
back anything up with logical argumentaiton) and a
corresponding lack of wisdom, or the ability to understand
what your intuitions actually mean.

maybe if some deeper sense of what is best for harmony
amongst humanity existed in our world leaders, they wouldn't
be able to convince theirselves that war, oppression,
exploitation, etc. are justified.

Unless you're God. He made plants and animals - "fuel" -
before he made man - the "iron horse".

I think it's important to remember that 600 million years
ago there were no computers.
