Aphex's music is sort of above criticism anyway. I don't mean that it's perfect, but that most people who were considering buying it will buy it regardless of the reviews.

Well I'll will buy it regardless of the bad reviews........but to say that all reviewers are wrong is a bit stupid...it's like saying that Richard can do no wrong...that he's incapable of putting out shit records.....

personally i don't understand the bad reviews. i have the mp3's and i can honestly say i like drukqs better than anything that came out this year. including tool and radiohead. imo it's the best aphex there is...
maybe the media are getting tired of his music. after all, drukqs isn't really a leap in evolution from rdj-album.
imo

just read an review on rollingstone.com about sawii... they gave it four stars, but the review itself was really weak. 'john cage's minimalism' was an influence on selected ambient works II? well, cage did works which could be somewhat called 'minimalist', but then a lot is minimalism. and where is 'john cage's minimalism' in sawii? i guess the reviewer does not know cage's music, and only repeated something he heard somewhere else. well, weak. can imagine how the drukqs review must like... 'the minimalism of erik satie'. great. just a bunch of truisms. but they raved at rolling stone about 'the strokes'. i guess i have to listen to that album...

i mean, of course there's the influence of satie in the piano pieces of drukqs... but the pieces sound really english or british, somehow like folk tunes. there's a composer, peter maxwell davies, who's written more simple piano pieces like aphex twin's 'avril 14th'. pieces like yesnaby ground and farewell to stromness. and they are so similar. i don't know if aphex knows these pieces, but anyway. the thing is, maybe satie was the influence on rdj to do simple piano pieces, but in the end aphex pieces are his own. somewhere a critic was quoted who said 'aphex twin is no erik satie'. of course. and aphex said in the groove review, that the piano pieces are his first, so he will do better and in the future, but he couldn't resist to release the pieces, how riskful that may be, and how clumsy they may be. this quote is also the proof that aphex does not think that he is the greatest genius now, he just loves his own music the most, although he is still not satisfied with it. but that's not very uncommon for an artist. giacometti never was satisfied and never thought he finally had arrived with his sculptures and paintings and drawings, but in the same way he loved his works and doing his works.
