I was once tempted to buy the antichrist-album... because
some reviewers made it seem like it was practically a new
nin-album.

But then i saw The Beautiful People for the first time... it
instantly made me dislike marilyn manson. My brother claims
mechanical animals is actually a good album, but i just
can't motivate myself to give it a chance.

i just can't stand all the horror-movie soundeffects "the
beautful people, the beautiful people wuuhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa"...
that creept "wuuhaaa"-choir really bugs me. The song sounds
like something that might be played in the ghosthouse at a
funfair.

"this is not music and we're not a band, we're five middle
fingers on a motherfucking hand"

after hearing this chorus to one of the new songs I became
fully aware of how silly marilyn manson has become

what happened? honestly, he was never THIS bad....ever

I havn't even heard anything other than antichrist
superstar. But I actually love that track "the reflecting
god" (and a few others on that album, but especially that
one) I havn't listened to it in a long time though.. it's
one of the most evil tracks ever. WHEN I'M GOD EVERYONE
DIES!!! It was really effectively shocking using "god" in
such a negative way to me, similar to NIN's "god is dead and
no one cares, if there is a hell I'll see you there".. it's
like an evil little mantra (that rhymes to boot, heh heh).
It might not work unless you really are pessimistic or
misanthropic. MM also is great at taking weird pictures of
himself in disturbing make up. Interesting album,
psychologically.

oh I have antichrist superstar - because I loved NIN then
(still like it a lot except the lyrics.. THE LYRICS!!).

I like quite a few songs on there, and I think "the
reflecting god" is one of those. does that one begin with
"YOUR WORLD IS AN ASHTRAY"..?

yeah. I like the downward spiral lyrics too. These two
albums are based on psychological shock, and it would do
nothing really without the vocals because words have
specific meaning.. even if used in a somewhat surreal way
(all the pigs are all lined up or whatever). The most
sophisticated psychological shocker is eyes of stanley pain
though. I don't mind if it seems silly from one paradigm for
maralyn manson to be that way, but he had to become that way
somehow. It reminds you how unhealthy the human species can
be.

I think they are silly.

I'm pretty sure they were not intended to be silly when
created from his point of view. I reckon he was truly a
disturbed person and this was how he released his
frustration. His previous albums were much crappier (except
some tracks like that one, uh, god money don't tell me what
do do, god money just tell me what you want me to etc... the
melody for that made wicked doom2 music when somebody
converted it in maximum doom) But they probably seem silly
from your point of view because you're mentally healthy and
can't really understand that perspective. Or I don't know
what I'm talking about, or writing rather.

it is a shame that with popularity came mediocrity however.
i'm more embarassed for marilyn manson everytime i hear

i miss the days when he didn't think he was too good to stay
in the nest trent built for him. Mechanical animals was a
step outward into "uh oh, this is going..... oh no here's
holy woood waaaaaayy dowwwwwnnn hilllllll"

yeah, he was always silly, but silliness used to be part of
the fun creepy aspect... now he tries too hard to be serious
about it while just coming off as ... very lame.

"all his cds sound exactly the same"

> you haven't heard Antichrist Superstar AND
Mechanical Animals, do you? : )
the voice is the same but the style do differ a lot between
these two.

i admit, i used to listen to Marilyn Manson quite a lot back
in the day... i have ACSS and MA, which i still consider to
be good albums (especially MA), even though i barely listen
to them anymore.
but holy wood and everything afterwards i've heard so far
really suck... : /

can't deny he's commercial. but he isn't hiding it, he likes
his status of "pop star" (or "rock star" or "teenage pop
idol" or whatever you want).

Antichrist Superstar is a pretty decent album imho. Dont
really like his new stuff though.

How can anyone say Downward Spiral has silly lyrics when it
has the song "hurt" on there, some of the most amazing
lyrics ever... its one of the few albums where I actally
care about the lyrics, though maybe thats because it
connects to me on a personal level.

MM is a big enigma for me...

From one side he has talent, and comes up with great music,
like the beutiful peoople, antichrist superstar, his cover
of sweet dream and especially the industrial track he did
for the Resident Evil movie (or atleast I heard it was
him)...

On the other side, his music follows the theme that his
image is setting up, becoming incredibly cheesy and
poppish...

I don`t know what to think =\

I like ACSS and, in general, consider myself a Manson fan,
to some extent. I guess. Hes nothing special. Okay, anyway,
what I have heard of this album is awful. AAAaawwffffuulll.
Im not a fan of Tim Skold in the first place (bleah!) but I
hate these songs--they all sound the same, the lyrics are
stupid, and its just dumb. I mean, come on, "Slut Garden"?
Starting to sound like Slipknot.

listened to it today... i must say i like some songs. it is
not as bad as holy wood was!

however it all sounds quite the same (except the title
track, but this one is the worst, it just plain sucks so
that doesn't matter) and becomes tedious, lacks substance. i
think i'll still listen to some tracks every now and then
(not the whole album)...

about the lyrics, i wonder when he's voluntarily being silly
and when he's just unvoluntarily ridiculous ' _ ' and
para-noir seems kinda misogynic... all isn't bad though.

I love the new stuff cuz it's so cheeky and fun.

seriously, on "THis is the New Shit" he says:

babble babble
bitch bitch
rebel rebel
party party
sex sex sex
and don't forget the violence.

seriously, what people said before, he IS pop, and he likes
it.

It takes balls to say "I memorized the words to the porno
movie"

I mean, it's fun, it still shocks people, and you know what,
it's great summertime jams :D
