every now and then there is an album released that stands the test of time and becomes the flagship to define a certain genre/style of music, these album may not be the artist's best albums, but more of a starting point to throw at people, to get them into a certain genre, these are all truly important albums that every self respecting music listenener should own. I've tried to assemble a list of some of these heavily influential albums that have forever marked the face of music.
Radiohead - OK computer RDJ - RDJ Album Avalanches - Since I left you Massive Attack - Mezzanine Björk - Homeogenic Nine Inch Nails - Further Down The Spiral Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation
what do you think are some of the most important albums of the century, and how do you think they affected music trends?
Cheers
Matt/Refund.

erm, I would disagree that these are some of the most influencial albums ever. They aren't bad but there are plenty of WAY more influencial albums than these. :p

It depends, every music scene has its preferred set of most influencial albums. Although rather than albums I prefer the look at influencial people/groups. From my point of view, albums that have gained the most from I would have to say are,
Prodigy - Experience Wu Tang Clan - Enter The 36 Chambers Dr Octogon Mr Twin - ICBYD Squarepusher - MIRON Herbie Hancock (Anything)
but that is just me personally

Dylan's Blonde on Blonde, Pet Sounds, Piper at the Gates... there's lots of other ones.
Mainly for me, it's everything by the Beatles, Tommy and Quadrophenia by The Who, Barrett and Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett, The Queen is Dead by the Smiths, and Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys.

Maybe Abbey Road, but my fave is the White Album. Revolver always tops the ''Best Albums Ever'' lists though, so it's a toss-up. Better to just go and shoplift them all.

That's a crazy cover... wish they actually went through with it. A handful actually got printed and sold... I'd sell my soul to Satan for one of them, if I still had one.

pat metheny group - offramp jaco pastorius - jaco pastorius miles davis - bitches brew
however, i feel not totally qualified to say this, since i was not alive (or in 1982 when offramp came out i was just 3 years old) when these albums came out.
and to say "album of the century" is kind of strange, seeing as how they only started making albums in the past century... dont you think?

Wow, man! :) Good thig youre here--I went to bed after posting about the Beatles. :) But good ol Ophecks came through and listed them for me! :) Yay! :)
I like Abbey Road and the White Album best. :)
I feel rather "cool", because this is my Beatles vinyl collection--
The Beatles - Rubber Soul (1965) The Beatles - Yesterday... And Today (1966) The Beatles - Revolver (1966) The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour (1967) The Beatles - The Beatles (The White Album) (1968) The Beatles - Abbey Road (1969) The Beatles - Hey Jude (1969) The Beatles - Let It Be (1970) The Beatles - 1962-1966 (1973) The Beatles - Love Songs (1977)
Look at me, I am cool (maybe?) :)
