but it's not noise! and it's not objectively boring. i've
experienced it in the exact opposite state of boredom, so i
know it's not. you either just need to open up to it with
hopes that there might be something there for you that you
didn't catch before, or else you should forget about it.
either choice is valid.

it was kinda boring..
that's what happened to Draft..
not counting Surripere."

that was quite funny charles!

oh well, too bad you dont like it. I'm loving it, kinda like
confield with more accessible elements, and parts that arent
so accessible... they got the balance perfect imho.

IV VV IV VV VIII!!!!

Enough said IMO. That is probably one of my favorite draft
tracks so far. With that nice little melody. It reminds me
of reconstruction or an overcoming of sorts. Just the fact
that this song gives me this feeling merits an award to AE.
They have been are and still doing great things musically.
To say AE is dead is a sign of sure incompitence. No offence
whatsoever.

think i may get the Richard Devine cd Lipswitch soon, from
the clips i've heard its kinda like confield, but more
mechanical and has more ambient elements to it.

Anyone here got the cd? Is that an accurate description?

that's not a bad description but, of course, it is its own
thing. i'd recomend you buy it. alea mapper on the other
hand just sounds like a cd to sample from, but i have to
admit i've only heard it a few times, and never listened to
it all the way through.

i listened to it each way, it's too long. it should be an
interlude, it's cool and stuff, but only as a transition
piece. because the first part is SO BLAZING.

as are many things in life. Music that emulates that IMO is
great. It stands as a representation or symbolism. Wheather
it is meant to or not. That's the great thing about music,
what it means to different people!

First of all, Incunabula is my 2nd favorite album of all
time. (Download III is my first. Any Download fans here?)
Secondly, I HATED Confield! I completely hated it when I
first got it. I still continued to listen to it because I
felt like the guys in Autechre knew what they were doing.
And this week, I finally got it. I think even if you don't
like the current musical direction that Autechre is taking
(and I'm not sure I'm completely happy about it because I
LOVE Incunabula) but you have to respect them for doing
something new. They are experimenting with sound. For those
who like Incunabula, maybe it's only good because there's
not more of it to get sick of it. Those who don't like it,
maybe there are other things that are too similar. But,
there's not too much similar to their new direction.
Confield has the most bizarre beats I've ever heard... They
have a rhythm, but the are incredibly unique rhythms... I
try counting the time and figure out what beats they on, but
they aren't really sixteen notes, nor are they triplets.....
Has anyone figured out what they are?
Gantz Graf is way cooler with the video, but I like the
second part too. Obviously not as much as the first, but it
still has some hidden rhythm... I have not received my copy
of Draft 7.30, but from what I've heard it is definitely
something interesting that will take a while to really
evaluate. I feel like the reward when I finally "get" it,
will be worth the wait. Plus, I enjoy evaluating music. I
have all of the CD's that "Hilt" put out, (cEvin Key from
Skinny Puppy and Download was in it) and I don't know if I
like it or not. I still listen to it because I find it
interesting. I enjoy trying to figure it out, and trying to
evaluate it. I guess I'm a bit long winded, but the short
answer is, I think you need to like puzzles to get
Autechre's new music.

Beethoven's 9th Symphony was called unlistenable upon its
release. Kubrick's 2001 was condemned as self-indulgent
garbage by the majority of critics at the time, and the same
pattern holds for pretty much all revolutionary art for the
simple reason that it is, by its very nature, completely
novel and unique. Is the work of Picasso objectively crap
simply because he broke all of the "rules" previously
ascribed to what art is and can be? I love art that
polarizes people, because it often signifies an artist who
is daring enough to create the future instead of simply
repackaging the past. As far as Autechre is concerned, I
already have Amber, I don't need another one. And the same
applies to all previous ae. I want to be challenged, and AE
is one of the rare artists today who is actually willing to
go all the fucking way.

Awesome! I didn't expect there would be any other Download
fans on here. Download seemed to be completely redefined
after EOSP when Spybey left. I have to say, I like the
post-Spybey Download better, but the earlier stuff is super
awesome too. I'd have to say that Download is my favorite
band. I have CLOSE to everything cEvin Key's ever done on
CD. It's about 70 CDs..... Does anyone else NOT like the
remix of "Killing Game" that Autechre did? You'd think
combining cEvin Key and Autechre would be super awesome, but
THAT seems like just noise... I should go relisten to it
though... Maybe now I'd appreciate it more... It's been a
while since I listened to Remix Dys Temper... Not the best
CD in the Skinny Puppy library.

ugh. im WAY too tired to get into puppy and this whole
conversation... needless to say, im gona brake it down to
its core composites:

last rights = one of the best albums EVER. PERIOD. EVERYONE
and their mom took notes form this thing. its a monster you
cant kill. download III = my fav of all the download stuff.
less noisy than eosp or furnace. more melodic. key's "ghost
of each room" is also excellent. confield = awesome sleeping
music. sorry to simplify it, but im tired. draft7.30 = one
of the top 5 albums you're gonna hear this year, so start
liking it.

for the record: ae aren't dead. they haven't alienated you.
they are doing what they have always done, which is whatever
they wnat to do. like it. respect it. embrace it. stop
trying to force their music to be what you want it to be.
let it be what it is.

AE bores me in general...I can respect a lot of it, but I
don't know why I do. I guess I only do because so many
others on the board rave about it.

Some tracks I enjoy though. Vletrmx21, for example, while
quite simple, is very moving.

While the rhythms are unconventional, I still like some of
it, but i find a lot to be unenjoyable. I shoudl force
myself to listen some day...Pen Expers is a great track off
Confield...

Just wanted to add that in so you don't think I only like
