Hail to the Thief thoughts

the verison that leaked is the unfinished Feb. mixes....
i was thinking though that the band hadn't even finished the
"real" mixes. So the final mix will no doubt be influenced
by the very fact that the early mixes leaked...
the band no doubt is reading message boards for
opinions...

i just thought this was trippy like traveling back in time
to kill your father ... it's not actually like that but you
get what i'm saying?

its growing on me. I can see how it'll sound a lot better
when mixed and mastered. Some songs are really good, some
arent really floating my boat. Its very detached from kid a,
but seems to be trying to hold onto something from amnesiac
whilst also going back to ok computer days. A lot of the
songs remind me of the weaker ones from amnesiac, but saying
all that, i thought ok computer was rubbish for a month,
then decided it was the work of genius.

I really, REALLY doubt this.

i doubt it, as well. think about trying to practice songs,
plan a tour, do promotion stuff, and figure out cover
art.... alot of time and effort. as well as living their own
seperate lives.

well, I was more thinking in the way that they're still
working on the stuff.

its unfinished, so whats the point in getting opinions on
unfinished music, opinions you've never really asked for in
the first place..?

Well, anyway, I think "Where I end and you begin" is amongst
Radioheads best songs. I love it.

I second that I don't think they listen to the
messageboards. Here's why:
The tracks are finished--whether or not they tangibly exist.
Radiohead aren't this band that goes out and fools around
in the studio a few months before the record comes out.
They have to work on the nuances--the small details, the set
up of everything. Tracks get mastered, not altered
dramatically. So if they did read boards, it wouldn't
affect their record significantly. Case in point; a lot of
people thought songs like Lift and True Love Waits, and I
Promise should have been put on one of their studio records.
But to date, many of their most loved tracks haven't been
released. And there's plenty of old stuff they've been
kicking around that the fans love but that hasn't been put
on record yet.

"So if they did read boards, it wouldn't
affect their record significantly."

again they HAVE read the boards.... but i get what your
saying that the tracks were already finished before the
leak...

Oh yah--they definitely have read them, I just meant, read
and interpreted results.

the record is finished so nothing changes...

they tought at first that the leaked stuff was the final
product.

offline tibbar from harrisburg, pa (United States) on 2003-04-09 01:16 [#00640130]

agreed... did no one hear them say "wait until you hear the
finished product, it's SO much better"? as in: it's done. as
in: they finished it. as in: there is no speculation on the
outcome.

i have full confidense in this band to pull out a stunning
piece of music. there IS no other discussion, for me. it
will be awesome, some will player hate (heh), and the rest
will hail it as one of their best.

the four songs i've heard sound so good... but i think
that the final verisons will sound even better...

the leaked recordings rule.

i love backdrifts. they played a song called 'i froze up'
on the christmas webcast (they mixed
autechre/squarepusher/etc for like two hours, it rocked) i
was hoping would be on the album, but alas not :(

reminds me of ok computer with a lot of amnesiac elements
to it.

can't wait for the album.

The latest issue of NME has a track by track preview of the
mastered version. I scanned it, seeing if I could spot any
discrepancies regarding the leaked version - didn't spot a
lot though. 'Stand Up...' sounded a little different,
maybe.

I think the only things that should be improved are the
vocals on some tracks (nonsense lyrics or plain improvised)
and some tracks just being too damn short.

well... im sure the gneral TONE of the record isnt
changed... just fleshed out more i s'pose... from having
glimpsed the mixing/mastering process a bit on my own... i
can tell you that a raw recording or a rough mix can sound
COMPLETLY different with just some eq and compression.

Radiohead have done was great. :)

well pissed off about the album title....some pretty harsh
letters.....

Yeah. That was completely ridiculous. I hope the album sells
like 10 million copies just to make them even more
distraught, brainless twats.

radiohead even said in interviews they didn't mean anything
like that.

absolutely....i mean its not like they re pro saddam or
anything...i found remarks like"wrap you yellow teeth around
saddams dick" completely missed the point...oh well! the
album will sell thats for shure....

I'll porbably be patient and wait until it's officially
released, I want this album to hit me as a whole, not 'one
song at a time' as I'm downloading it.

what was the release date again?'

june 10th.
why do you have to listen to every song as its downloading?
i downloaded, burnt to cd, and then listened as a whole.

well, can't blame ya for that. anyway its not even mastered,
so its not like you're missing the final product. i probably
spoiled it for myself by listening.

I really like Hail to the Thief. I really like "Sail to the
Moon" and "We Suck Young Blood". Im all for the sad,
depressing Radiohead songs. It's sooo good, almost too
good.
