[*** Best Xltronic Album ***]

The best xltronic artist of 2003 was Aphex Twin after a
really hard battle against Autechre... but which is the best
Xltronic album of ever?
Maybe Selected Ambient Works vol.II, maybe Chiastic Slide,
maybe Hard Normal Daddy, maybe Double Figure or Astrobotnia.

If i will have enough energies (and your support) i could
prepare another Xltronic competition similiar to the last,
but different.

\/\/.

championship, its gonna be vast

so this is just for electronic type music?

Do it! Allow people to nominate 10 albums then use that list
as a starting point.

Aren't there too many albums, or are you going to limit
yourself to for instance no more than any given number per
artist?

That would be a competition between hundreds of albums...
the math would be very complicated :-p I predict
there'll be dozens of albums only mentioned by 1 person, so
only getting one point. The list will become seemingly
endless.

And you know druqks would win anyway. I believe there have
been polls about the best RDJ-album, and your recent poll
about the best idm-artist :-p

RDJ turned out to be the favourite artist, and druqks his
best album. This obviously (?) means most people on this
board will vote druqks.

My favorite AFX release is prolly classics or SAW 85-92.

how about you only list albums mentioned by 5 or 10
people...

Another consideration is that sometimes the boundary between
an EP and an album is blurred, so maybe it should be for all
releases, not just albums.

my idea is: in the qualifications we should choose our 3 or
4 favs albums of the more prolific artists (as afx and ae),
and then 2 or 1 for the others.
After this qualifications we will have 24 best names and we
can go with the same formula of xltronic championship.

BTW: ONLY ALBUM, NOT EP

i.e.
autechre:

incunabula
amber
tri repetae
chiastic slide
ep7 (i'd consider an album)
lp5
confield
draft7.30

Are 8 names, best 3 or 4 get the qualification for the
championship.

It will be not so difficult, imo.

Then the same for AFX, Squarepusher, Plaid, µziq, BoC, Luke
Vibert, Ovuca, etc...

not sure... :-/

Having it restricted to only albums kinda puts AFX out of
the competition. Most of his best work was on EP's.

I'm not agree, ep by afx aren't so good imo (i'm thinking to
donkey rhubarb, ventolin series, etc...).

ep by Ae are more beautiful compared to them (garbage,
envane, chichlisuite), etc...

See, there's a problem already. You consider EP7 an album, I
don't.

then there is AB2 and 4. Along with HAB. And CTD. All
these are EP's and are great. How could one not inculde
Windowlicker?

Just try and sort some form of competition out, and those
who don't like the way it's done just have to prove they can
do it better...

Why dont you only allow votes for the best album from the
top winners.

So that would narrow down the choices and only allow you to
vote amongst the best: afx, sqpusher,ae, etc.

Choose from the top 10 perhaps?

offline nacmat on 2003-04-08 18:56 [#00639687]
Points: 31271 Status: Lurker | Followup to weatheredstoner: #00639686

i will do it more simple, everybody chooses 10-20 albums (no
matter the artist as long as it is idm)

after people vote we count votes and we see the top 24
albums (no matter the artist) and then we make a competition
with groups and all

This could be a very time-consuming idea, considering we're
choosing several albums from several different artists. If
you can pull this off I'll gladly participate...

afx and sp... we choose are fave almbumns and add it up

ok, we are talking about:

if we do this championship, way of electing the tracks:

they have to be IDM

you all are talking about compllicated ways, such as
choosing a number of tracks by artist depending on how
prolific the artist are
I think this is too much complicated cos, who chooses that?
why that?

i prefer if I can choose any track I want, for example if I
can choose 20 tracks (very easy) if I want 8 of them to be
from afx... whats the problem? I see no problem with that

so I would say:

we have to choose 10 to 20 tracks (so if you just wanna
choose 10 is ok, but there is a limit of 20 (track name,
album name and artist name)

and after many of us have voted we can see the 24 more voted
tracks and with this we do the competition as the last one

better ideas?

this could probably be worked into xltronic version2?

ie. have a place in the personal profile to put favourite
artist, album whatever ... and then one can automatically
compile statistics of the popularity of artists etc ...
dunno - i guess that wouldn't have the knockout effect.

Maybe you could first have a 'national' competition with one
artist and all of his releases. Nr 1 (and 2 maybe) qualifies
for the 'international' competition. For the artist to
participate, I would look at the previous championship. How
many artists and how it exactly should work precisely is
offcourse up to you guys.
