- socializing and having fun with friends
- finishing music school
- Heidi Range :P
- off to pub/discotheque (music is usually crap, but
atmosphere is OK)
- junkfood/chinese food

...of course there's also electronic music, but I haven't
explicitly mentioned it because the title of the thread is
"OTHER passions"

Yes, I'm still waiting for someone I met at ATP to email me
for a rematch :)

I'm not very good, but I'm a reasonably competant player and
have an "interesting" play style...

I have a real problem playing on the net. I can't get a
proper idea of the placement of the pieces. When I play live
i win 9/10, but when i play online (even against dumb
players) i get 4/10 ....I really don't know why

offline Junktion from Northern Jutland (Denmark) on 2003-04-08 08:17 [#00638759]
Points: 9713 Status: Lurker | Followup to Junktion: #00638755

I just need to feel the pieces....i guess...I have been
thinking of putting up a chessboard at the side, and
dublicate the placement of the online-board, but that would
harm my draw-time.

what really ruins the online chess playing is people who
also run a chess-program during the play in which they play
the same game,
only there they play the opponents moves manually and wait
what the computer does, then they do the same move (as the
computer) in the online game

Junktion:

My dad (a much better player than me) has that problem. I
can always beat him when we play 2 player on a GB/GBA, but
when we play on a board he wins 9/10 times. I also find
playing on those big walk around boards hard, I have to
stand a way off to get an overview...

Morton:

Yes, my dad refuses to play online for that reason...
