Are there any videogames you actually play for the music?
which game has the best soundtrack? Do you even record it?

i did have a bunch of video game themes on mp3... oldschool
stuff: castlevania (one of the best themes ever), metroid
(also top notch), mega man (not sure which one), and some
others (i think maybe contra was in there too)

Anyone hear of Rez? Haven't played it but it
looks like it sounds cool :D Other... yeah, Metroid is
classic. Double Dragon? hehe. I've played so many games
though. To me, music wasn't important in a game as much as
when voices were implemented. Now that was the shit. Back
then.

I listen to videogame music just like ''real music'', I have
all the classic soundtracks from Zophar.net... it has
everything for SNES, Genesis, NES, Gameboy, etc. I collect
MP3s of the new stuff, too... but I'm generally old school.

Best ever-
Metroid series, Mega Man, Sonic, Mario, Contra, Castlevania
(esp 4), Final Fantasy, Chrono... then there's Earthbound,
which is the most underrated game EVER, with a brilliant
soundtrack that sounds so freaking goofy...

I actually own the original soundtrack for Crono Trigger and
Final Fantasy 6.

3 cd's for each game, and a beautifully done case with
artwork for each one. Imported straight from japan. 3,800
yen apiece.

well shit
i own the FF 1+2, IV, VI and IX sountracks on CD
i don't really care for IX though

are any of you guys knowing about .nsf and .spc files?
they are these little data files with all the music info
from your favorite games
.nsf = nes
.spc = super nes
zophar has the biggest collection - under game
music
you'd need a player like Meridian but that's available at
Zophar's as well

it's how I make my mp3;s

music from
"American mcGee's Alice", by Chris Vrenna
simply one of my favorite albums ever.
I've never heard anything that came as close to fitting my
mind as this music.

and also,

any amiga-game by the bitmap brothers had kickass music well
worthy of playing for the music alone. "xenon2,
speedball2,gods,magic pockets,cadaver"

Phantasy Star Online : I thought the music on this was so
good I hosted it for everyone to hear, get it, it's worth it.

Vib Ribbon : this game has a crazy j-pop esque soundtrack,
it's like the candy floss of game soundtracks,

Quake : Trent, I actually store this cd with the rest of my
NIN

Shadow Warrior : some suprisingly good music on there,

Omikron : the stuff David Bowie did on it

there's more but I can't think of them right now.

The swimming levels in DKC have precious music... the whole
game is full of awesome atmospheric/ambient tunes, very
unlike anything else on the system. It makes me go ape.

Great choices! Contra is 8-bit blips and bloops trying to be
heavy metal... soooo hardcore cutesy. The Minibosses do a
block rockin' rendition of the Contra themes.

I really like the soundtracks for the Silent Hill games. I
even bought the CD for the second game, and will most likely
get the first one.

the first two Oddworld games have really neat, kind of
quirky music and I really dig those.

There's a lot of video games, old and new, that I play just
so I can hear the music and yes, I've recorded them here and
there. I love old 8-bit and 16-bit game's music. Good stuff
all around.
