How are the "quality" live recordings done? Not the ones
made with a mic, but those grabbing the stream from master
output?
I mean, who's responsible for recording it? Do artists
themselves set up the thing or should there be a smart
fellow in the crowd to arrange such a recording?

I think if you want to have a good quality, you should ask
to have it directly from the master output.

A friend of mine working at a radio station recorded all the
shows from a cultural happening last year, and she did it
through the output on a Minidisc. As she was working for a
radiostation, she probably knew what she was doing.

And if you stand in the audience and record it, you'll
always get noise from the people around you I guess.

offline rockenjohnny from champagne socialism (Australia) on 2003-04-08 04:50 [#00638312]
Points: 7983 Status: Lurker

the way they opne the set with a nasty squeal, break into
the blips of tilapia, slowly build it up.. and crank the
howling synth thru to the end.. then dump into gelk..
beautiful..

1999, 56 minute recording

it also has a version of draun quarter.. and weird mixes of
stuff that you cant pick what it is.. but sounds fantastic

offline tibbar from harrisburg, pa (United States) on 2003-04-08 04:53 [#00638320]
Points: 10513 Status: Lurker

i want that one... definitely... i gotta hunt it down. is
the quality good? soundboard or audience?

yeah i think thats a recent thing.. they seem to do apeshit
dark dance oriented stuff now, from what i gather from the
atp recordings.. ive got to make it to see them someday..

the coachella set is almost entirely released material, they
cover a lot of ground there, from bike thru to an early pen
expers

no no no. im serious. the first 2 tracks are the best in the
whole set. there's this beautiful synth halfway through
track 1, reminds me of something off kid a, actually. then
track 2, around the 7:30 mark, this HOT sounding stuff just
pumps in and gets all hype... you REALLY need to hear it.
