My friends and I are pretty well evenly divided over this.
I think it's rather organic sounding but many disagree. What
does everyone else think?

Definitely more organic than Confield... and ESPECIALLY
Chiastic Slide. That thing makes me feel rusty.

aspects in there

Bio-mechanical.

Uh... I'd say it's organic in it's construction but has a
very layered, complex mechanic make up of beats and sounds.

i've only heard IV VV IV VV VIII, but from looking at the
cover, i decided that it would be organic

i think that confield was the album where the machines
became organisms... and this is the next step in the
evolution
it's exobiotics

I'm so unimportant I should only post half of a time instead
of once or twice like everyone else. :(

I think the cover "describes" it well. I'd say an accident
at some sort of bio-engineering futuristic mutatronic plant.

At what point of complexity does an artifact become a
creature? Autechre's songs sounds self aware, therefore I
say they are living machines.

autechre postulates the future of humanity: destroyed by the
machines they've created... the machines, an extension of
humanity itself, progress until their knowledge and speed
mirrors that of a deity...

so basically what i am saying is... that autechre is god...
haha lame... i'm going home now... wa

I reckon (after only one listen when it arrived today mind
you) that its nowhere near as organic sounding as confield..
. I do sort of wish theyd use more actual acoustic sounds in
there music.. . not just those kit beats on one of the near
end tracks which sound too much like other electronic Ive
heard. ..

on things for sure its a brilliant album.. . track 5.
surripere is my first fave. ..

offline DeadEight from vancouver (Canada) on 2003-04-07 22:11 [#00637778]
Points: 5437 Status: Regular

the term "first fave" was invented for the sole purpose of
describing autechre albums

Ah, but what are machines but a different form of organism?
I guess, in a sense, creating machines is creating new
species

Yes! And with time, there won't be a distinction between
tools and tool users. We will blend with our machines so
thoroughly that it will be hard to tell who came out on
top... and the tools will be so complex and engineered on a
molecular level that it will be more like symbiosis than
anything else - two species in a mutually beneficial
relationship.

whereas i see some of their previous releases as machines
with a soul or humanistic emotions, i see the newer material
as being very human or fleshy, with a slight inhumanity
(alien, mechanical, etc...)

if someone who'd never heard ae before came hear and saw
this...

There seems to be some resistance by the human psyche for
these bio-machines. that's why most people who haven't
followed AE hear Confield for the first time and their
bodies react violently. we are on the cutting edge, evolving
with the machines. Maybe...

well if you can't be the prom queen or trackstar... you can
always pretend like you're a more evolutionarily advanced
form of the species and listen to nonsense all day long :)
