for anybody who does comp-based compositions...
ever been someplace with a wicked idea but no pooter? if so,
you write down the idea, or do you lose it? if ya write it,
ya got some cool way of drawin it out?
these are the things that boggle my mind...

i mean...that's somethin that just massively interests me,
cause i noticed in guitar magazines, they always show these
cool ways the guitar players will draw out their setup, it's
like a language in itself. so i figured, electronic
musicians prolly do the same thing with their "setups" (i
use that term loosely, cause for comp-based, it's nothin
more than samples/timings/FX)

exactly! that's what i meant by 'cool way' of drawin it out
i wonder how mr.RDJ would draw his shit out if it came right
down to it
but the main thing i always wonder, and people have asked me
about it too:
do you get to a point in the writing process where you can
look at the base file (in acid or whatever you use) and tell
what it sounds like without playin it

yeah, that's how i usually draw it out when i absolutely
have to, with extra vertical lines to seperate bars how i
need to
so just look at the screen for acid, that's my cool (HA!)
way of drawin things out

yeah, i can't explain it either, but i do it different for
the different ideas i have... sometimes ill draw a 16th note
measure up and plot drum sounds on it... it depends on the
idea, like i said.

yeah, i tried to draw out breaks once....didn't work out one
bit, hehe
but when it comes down to melodies and the timing of said
melodies, that's where my drawings start to look at least
halfway interesting

I play guitar and there's nothing I dread more than some
weed when I'm in someone else's house - usually they don't
have a guitar and within five minutes of getting stoned I'm
jamming like Jimi in my head. Never remember them either,
fuck!

What you mention is a big problem. Mostly because ideas come
when i'm half-asleep, lying in my bed. It's too much trouble
turning on my computer and plotting it in, and I tried it
once... the idea was gone when the computer finally got
fired up.
