1) squarepusher - when i heard big loada it blew me away..
when port rhombus came on i literally fell out of my chair
then started freaking out.. and i asnt on drugs at the
time.

2) nofx - the first punk band i ever heard.. and i was a
punk rocker for the better part of my youth (and still
consider myself more punk rock than anything else). so nofx
started all that off.

3) beastie boys - i thought theyre music was fucking crazy,
and it was different from most rap. but most of all because
of them i started reading up on budhism and tibet, and in
general became a lot more aware about the world around me
sort of. and they're my favorite band of all time.
there';s so many crazy ass stories about them.

4) fatboy slim - yes, it's true. fatboy slim was the first
electronica i really took a liking too. so in a way if it
wasnt for his music i might've never gotten into idm and all
that

5) aphex twin - first 'idm' artist i ever heard of.. i
thought he sucked at first, but then i heard stuff off of
come to daddy and rdj album and realized that this idm ting
was really fucking cool, and through him i got into
squarepusher and other idm.

yeah

emotional experience of the music does things to my life:

Vladimir Butusov is the one who lured me into the world of
music. Best musician in Russia.

Autechre made me feel that my introvertedness is ok and made
me see beautiful things around me i never noticed

AFX discovered electronic music for me

NiN helped me survive the darkest parts of my life

Rammstein made me a lot of good friends

Nirvana introduced me to rock,
Korn introduced me to industrial rock,

I lost faith in rock music, after deciding it had nothing to
offer me, and was too boring.

prodigy introduced me to electronic,
then fatboyslim,
then AFX,

aphex made me appreciate music in a way I never did before,

NIN/tool eventually restored my faith in rock,

radiohead made me finally realise that there's good music in
all genre's, even pop-rock

now I listen to all kinds of stuff.

In no particular order:

Nirvana: I was 12 when smells like... came out, a revelation
to me.

Radiohead: the song street spirit is still the best song
ever for me personally, and they got me into several styles
of music.

Autechre: one "band" having such a varied repertoire.

Stratosphere: a friend of mine making ambient. Musically not
the best, but he showed me that just normal people like you
and me are making music. I knew that off course, but this is
just a different way of seeing things.

My Dying Bride: Doom metal, what a way of combining heavy
guitars with violins, great lyrics as wel, and always a
beautiful packaging to their albums.

1. Most obvious to me is Peter Gabriel... more specificially
his albums Passion and Us... Both of these albums helped me
through tough times in my life, and helped me see the
positive that lay at the end of all that shit...

2. Genesis I guess... old, Peter Gabriel led Genesis... this
was the first "strange" music I listened to... music that
was away from the norm, and really opened my mind and ears
to different styles of music... and I guess helped me have
an open mind about all things...

3. I guess another would be Radiohead, as their albums Ok
Computer, and Kid A really helped to get me interested in
electronic music...

4. Aphex Twin, duh... he was the first IDM type musician I
got into... and it really opened up a lot of different
ytypes of music to me, partly through this site and reading
about artists on here...

5. Ravi Shankar... even though I don't have any albums by
him, seeing him play on the woodstock film sparked my
interest in Indian music, and especially the sitar which is
an amazing instrument... couldn't think of anyone else to
put here, so Ravi will do...

beatles/marvin gaye/60's motown

U - led

pearl jam/nirvana/alice in chains/trent reznor/beastie boys
(various indie, shellac et. al rolling stones, clash)

2 - zeppelin

rza/wutang/dj shadow/tricky/roni
size/photek/aphex(windowlicker blew me away)/

and most recently autechre et. al

that's about 5 right?

I don't take back any of it. most of the groups I listened
to in like 5th grade (U2 - mysterious ways was the first
contemporary pop/rock song I absolutely LOVED, pearl jam) I
still listen to now. though I do feel the
electronic/experimental movements are more
importent/interesting at times
