herro

well i know there are a few from Iceland on this MB, so
maybe you can link, or list a few places to check out. I
would like to check it out (esp since i can fly there for
about the price of 2 cd's =0) I'd prolly only go for 2-3
days, what i'm most interested in is...

- is there good public transportation to get around to see
the sites or do you need a car?
- are there any cool record stores that you'd recommend?
- what sites would you recommend seeing?
- whats the best time of the year to go there?
- can you get a taste of the country in 2-3 days?

i'm a novice with this country, i just found out about a
killer deal to go there, so i'm more interested in checking
it out. and who knows maybe BJORK will be playin somewhere
around the country!!

T hee

thanks an ocelot!
-

- is there good public transportation to get around to
see the sites or do you need a car?

there are no trains here but there are good bus
tranportations for tourists. i'd prefer using a car but i
don't really know the cost of a rental car

- are there any cool record stores that you'd
recommend?

12 tónar is the best one. they have classical music
and jazz upstairs, and downstairs they have electronic music,
mostly IDM =) there's even a special icelandic section, yumm
yumm. It's a very cozy place to be at, you'll feel right at
home. there's a big sofa where you can listen to music, read
music magazines and you can have hot cup of coffee for no
charge. highly recommended. we also have Þruman
which has lot of dance music covering genres like
dnb/techno/house/hip-hop and some experimental electronic
music. There's also a good second-hand record store
'Geisladiskabúð Valda' which is worth checking out. Other
stores, which are more commercialized and bigger are
Japis and Skífan which also have DVD's, games
etc. for DVD movies i recommend 2001

- what sites would you recommend seeing?

the most popular ones are gullfoss and geysir. and you can't
miss out going to the blue lagoon!
(although i myself have never been there, yet :P) i
recommend www.reykjavik.com and other websites to find more
info on cool places to visit and other activites.

- whats the best time of the year to go there?

i would most definetly say during the summer, around
june/july/august when there's not snow hiding our beatiful
nature :). The absoloutly best time to come here would be
during the Icelandic Airwaves music festival which was held
in August last year

- can you get a taste of the country in 2-3 days?

if you are well prepared and planned, yeah :)

hope that was helpful LeCeuor !

Dood!

you soooooooo rock n roll!!! thanks for coming through and
offering such GREAT personal recommendations......thats what
i like. =o)

it's the LOCALS that know where it's happening! ZE BLUE
LAGOON sounds FABU ^__^

i'm really looking forward to checking it out (hopefully
with the BF), and maybe getting some cool NEW music.

car rentals for a few days wouldn't be too expensive, i just
hope you guys drive on the RIGHT side of the street, not
like those crazy BRITS

gracas, danke, TAKK alberto

i'm not from iceland, i've never been there and don't know
anyone personally who has been there, and yet for some
reason i always come accross praise for 12 tonar, so it must
be a decent store for me to know about it. prolly the only
record store outside of minneapolis i know of.

i think cars should be made illegal in iceland in order to
preserve all the good stuff :P

J198: hahahaha right. so you'd rather travell the country by
spending weeks riding horses in all kinds of weathers? :)

you could do that to preserve our nature, be my guest! :)

jupitah: so you don't know anyone who's been to iceland, how
is that you know of 12 tónar then?

can't remember exactly, read about it somewhere, a couple
places, and i was left with the impression that it was a
fine store. maybe twas an interview with a musician?

actually, some icelander was on the bogdan board asking if
anybody knew of a good record shop in iceland, and i said i
had heard of this 12 tonar and he replied that he found it
and it had everything he was looking for and more! i got a
kick out of it, helping this person in iceland find their
local record chop =0)
