hah \/\/ooÆ’erAttack says aphex is the king of electronic
music (and he's not the only one). little do you people
know that while he cavorts on stage, autechre hide behind
the curtains. they are the ones breaking new ground.
forget electronic music, they're revolutionizing music
period, much more than anyone else at the moment.

hey bogus
check the topic of this post.

Squarepusher

Bogus on 2001-10-10 00:31 [#00039858]

I wont waste my time trying to get into the horrible noise
that autechre makes nowadays... it's just 2 guys playing
around with their noise machines. at least aphex and
squarepusher have a sense of music.

scafold from over there on 2001-10-10 01:22 [#00039859]

First off - i think autechre is great! But i wish people
would quite making them the messiahs of electronic music.
They're not revolutionizing anything. To revolutionize you
have to direct something on a percieved course. I think
they're experimenting. Experimenting leads to discovery and
i think that's whats happening. While everyone else is busy
emulating autechre is creating. And i don't think autechre
will sound anything like they do today in 2 to 3 years from
now.

Oliver on 2001-10-10 01:44 [#00039861]

Well, i personally like autechre's new noisy stuff more that
the melodic old...
Its far more intricate, far more interesting to me.
I think what they're doing is fantastic.

I totally agree zhak, aphex's equation song comes close.
Autechre in mind boggling. Get crunch's "1" at
www.forcedexposure.com, I promise they are in a similar
direction in terms of intelligent organised sound. Do you
have any other suggestions of music in a similar vein, there
seems to be few that do things this neurotic and insanely
detailed.

Phat Bastard from Saskatchewan on 2001-10-10 03:27 [#00039875]

Yea, Jega's Geometry is the shit. Been in my CD player for
a year. I thinks its on of the most underrated releases.
Just wondering what's everyone elses thoughts on it?

od from perth on 2001-10-10 03:43 [#00039878]

breaking new ground isnt everything.
i'd rather have a song that i can get into

of course, both is better :)

Quoth from Berlin on 2001-10-10 04:43 [#00039880]

I'm not too concerned with breaking ground, nor do I
consider Autechre Or even RDJ to be "Groundbreaking"...
everyone 'expands' from eachother... do you people; ie:
Zacka;lksdjf think that Autechre listened to no one to make
Confield? I severly doubt it. First off, electronic boxes
are only programmed so far, and you can't go anywhere past
that spectrum unless you start programming your own stuff.
Point is... the first humans to make a drum out of a tree
and some skin are the true groundbreakers. The rest of us
are just expanding from that.

thanksomuch from planet claire on 2001-10-10 08:18 [#00039894]

mouse on mars, is another "ground breaker"... although, i
don't much enjoy the new CD..

rednaxella from germaniac on 2001-10-10 08:23 [#00039896]

anybody ever heard of TWERK? his new cd is the dope peeps -
check out the mille plateaux.com site

wizards teeth on 2001-10-10 10:17 [#00039916]

i think to open new avenues we need to produce music for
animals and insects and plants to listen to.

I think we should also have a competition to create a sound
that has never been heard before

Sound Assassin from The Patent Office UK on 2001-10-10 12:34 [#00039968]

There is an infinity of sounds that have not been heard
before, its more to do with the way they are used.

Have fun

Sound Assassin from The Patent Office UK on 2001-10-10 13:38 [#00039974]

Does a falling tree make a sound if no-one is around to hear
it?

ha ha

Have fun

wizards teeth on 2001-10-10 13:43 [#00039975]

you could leave a video camera and tape recorder in a
jungle.

when the tree falls you will be able to see it, go the next
day and listen to the tape

balthus from europe on 2001-10-10 14:23 [#00039979]

satie, stravinsky and schoenberg, they did groundbreaking
things (1910s), then cage with his percussion and prepared
piano pieces (1940s), and minimalism, riley, reich, glass
(late 1960s/early 1970s)... but now? dunno. yes, electronic,
aphex maybe, the warp artists, perhaps, they are great, but
i'm not sure, if this is really groundbreaking, though
(listened to autechre albums, have to say i like boards of
canada and squarepusher more).

balthus from europe on 2001-10-10 14:27 [#00039981]

well, if breaking ground is expanding and not doing
something completely new (which isn't that possible anyway),
then some of the warp artists are groundbreaking. i guess
the groundbreaking things are the ones which are imitated
after a while by a lot of people. in the arts it was always
like that.

Ha ha! Most definately!

dj bladdered from shitty office UK on 2001-10-10 15:15 [#00039993]

Last groundbreaking music surely was made by Status Quo '-
Marguerita Time' is the electronic blueprint for most bands
since the late 80s (RDJ no exception)

Sound Assassin from The Patent Office UK on 2001-10-10 15:24 [#00039994]

Surely Throbbing Gristle, since they were the first people
to do sampling using two tape deacks & they used all manner
of sounds!

Have fun.

the early seventies!)
