My Gescom Iss:Sa review

as i've yet to encounter iss:sa on slsk, here's my little
piece on this ep, which i picked up from my local record
store today (sorry phobes, but this was a nice opportunity),
apparently 2 weeks before the release, but hey. if you've
already heard the ep, sorry, but indulge me on this one,
will ya? :)

the thing is, if you know the Autechre at Coachella '99
boot, you'll know at least 3 songs. iss:sa is track 3 from
the coachella recording (including prolonged outro), tangle
ill is track 11 and tr2a is track 6 from disc 2. as most of
you prolly know these tracks i won't bother to say anything
about them except that they're stunning :P

so that leaves slow acid and the megamix (which i hereby
nominate for the golden raspberry award for most cheesy
trackname). slow acid seems at first a rather dull track
with an uninteresting beat. sounds like confield era stuff.
having listened to it only twice sofar, i'll leave it at
that.
now the megamix is a whole 'nother story. it mixes the tiny,
nearly unrecognisable bits of gescom (i take it) tracks and
molds them around an alienating yet danceable beat in a way
reminiscent of them laptoppians. but this is no easy
listening. entrancing, yes.

so is this cashing in on draft? oh yes, as close as any idm
artist comes to cashing in anyway. but who cares, these are
tracks most fans wanted to see released anyway. and with a
total running time of 47 minutes, it's silly to leave it in
the stores.

forgot to mention the artwork is excellent! the package is
similar to the hi-scores ep (including braille).

the pictures remind me of giger. inside is a card featuring
alien looking instruments sort of like a saxophone. just the
kind of musical tool that could make these sounds :)

and by now (day 2) the megamix sounds excellent as well

i ordered it one week ago at plato in leiden, just trying it
out. i was then still under the impression it would be
released on march 31st. i was astonished to find their
letter in my post saying it was ready to pick up. i assume
mine was the only copy :\
