A friend of mine gave me this album today and it seems really interesting.
Good electronic from Trent Reznor. What you think?

Its a good release a little commercial sounding though. The frail version is my favorite track (kinda aphex like). The remixes of where is everybody and the Wretched are far superior to the originals. 2 too many starfucker remixes though, I like the last one but the other 2 are shit. Has anyone heard La Mer remix? It's really good I dont know why its not on this cd.

Eh. I think some tracks suck bigtime (especially the first starfuckers mix) the second one's my favorite though.
Also, the great collapse was so crappy it should never have been passed off as new material. 10 miles high soudns almost EXACTLY like the studio version. The frail remix sounds rushed and half-assed. All in all, I'd say it's a decent release, but nothing mandatory for nails fans.

"metal" is a fantastic cover, but so are "physical", "dead souls', and, if you want to count it (he did co-write the original), "suck".
"get down make love" and "memorabilia" (sticking to proper nin cover versions, not side projects) are pretty good but not the best nin.
as for the topic, i love this EP. it's my favorite remix cd by nin and that's saying a lot. it's much more varied than its predecessors and i like that. still, some good remixes were rejected for this (stay tuned for my unreleased nin faq page).

In terms of remix albums, I think 'Further Down the Spiral' was the best - It's practically a work of art. Most of 'Things Falling Apart' sounds like something you'd hear when you walk into American Eagle.

there were 3 remixes of eraser and 4 different remixes of mr. self-destruct across the formats of FDTS.
plus all the closer remixes on halo 9...
i do think there were too many remixes of HLAH on halo 3, but i think that was the record company (TVT)'s fault, not trent's creative decision.

I like further down the spiral more probably due to coil doing like 4 of the tracks. anyways I really liked things falling apart, all the starfuckers remixes suck except the last one which is really noisy and cut up and doesnt even resemble it much. Metal is awesome, anyone else notice this but its a combination of two Numan tracks from the pleasure principle...the end part of metal is a different song on the gary numan album (or am I just hallucinating).
I downloaded a bunch of the remixes that didnt make it onto the album and I agree, the la mer (version) was really good, they could have gotten rid of all the starfuckers remixes except the last one, they kind of ruin it for me, especially the one that sounds like a generic dance song.

man i've been putting off my 9000 point message cos it's so embarassing but i'm a sucker for answering people's questions. that's why i have 9000 points.
the melody at the end of the "metal" cover is from "cars". there may be even more gary numan fragments in this great, great cover.
p.s. i agree w/ the coil thing.. the downward spiral remix, the eraser remixes... wow. i love coil remixes, too bad more artists don't utilize them. there's a depeche mode remix that DM rejected for whatever reason. it was a remix of "rush".

i think this remix album is absolute crap...it is the shittiest nails release to date.
anyhow, the thing could have been somewhat salvaged if they had put the "lee completion" mix of metal that i downloaded before the release. it was much better than the version on the album.

you have GOT to be kidding. if not i don't know how i could ever take you seriously from this point. that fan mix is awful; it's based on 2 mp3 clips of "metal" less than a minute long. it just mixes those with some older nin samples. it's really sloppy and i'm shocked you prefer that to the professional version.

lee completion mix is a fan mix by someone named lee. it's called the completion mix cos it came out before the actual song did. it pieced together the 2 leaked mp3's to make a "completed" song. it blows.

i believe you, i had figured it was a rough sort of thing when i had it but for as much as i have downloaded right now, i still think the beginning is better. and i suppose i'm an idiot for saying that, but that little preview got my hopes up for that record and i was sorely disappointed.

when's the last time you actually listened to it? also if you don't mind me asking, what is wrong with you if you can't enjoy the throbbing muted disco evolving into breakcore madness of the clouser remix of starfuckers; the glitched out classical rendition of the frail; the glitch hop remix of where is everybody; the gorgeous outro to metal.... i dunno, i guess i just have a knack for appreciating things.

once in a while i take it out to make sure my first instinct was right, believe it or not...i am a huge nine inch nails fan and i dont think that my dislike for this release really has anything to do with not being able to appreciate things...sometimes we just for whatever reason don't like what the obvious thing to like is. (i have no idea why i like this lee completion bullshit. i think it starts out kinda bad ass.)
anyhow, i dont like dance music and this album was like trent goes to the rave if you ask me. but i do like the outro of metal anyhow, the album version.
just doesn't hold a candle to fixed or even further down the spiral.

i'm not familiar with "M.E." but i am familiar w/ "cars"... i just listened to it and i must admit i am wrong. the reason i thought that is cos trent uses the same style synthesizer as numan used in "cars", even at the same pitch, but it's not the same melody like i said. good lookin out, baldy.
