On the subject of things bought today: I bought Go Plastic.
I love it!

wizards teeth on 2001-10-08 14:49 [#00039470]

is that the new squarepusher lp ?

is so i think it is very good also, i am planning on playing
some music at a party this weekend. the people will not have
heard the music, hence there is a risk.

i am not that experienced at mixing, and find it very
difficult to mix together most braindance tunes.

one reason for this is the complexity of some, i also feel
that i am contaminating the original sound that the artist
has made for the audience to listen to.

is this right or wrong or both or none ?

Feed Me Weird Things was Squarepusher's first release on
Rephlex.
It is damn good

you can never contaminate a braindance tune by mixing. If
you are in tune with the track and know it well, it will
allow you to mix itself smoothly. Check out chris clark vs
the warp dj's 3 hour mix on warpnet.com for some examples of
lots of different types of mixing....class stuff. Feed me
weird things....TOP CLASS. Got Ovuca's 'wasted sunday'
myself the other day.....lovely.
(Wizards Teeth...i ain't forgotten! )

....follow that to go plastic. Now that's a journey !!!!

mmm feed me weird things..
i'm lucky i bought this when i did.. i havent seen it in any
stores (besides warpmart) since. its definately one of my
favorite albums (by any artist) and probably my fav by sp..

and while were on the topic of squarepusher, i read in an
interview with aphex a while ago that one (maybe more?) of
squarepusher's tracks is a rework of an afx track...anyone
have an idea which? i've always thought dimontane co.
sounded a bit suspect (rework of afx114 or fantasia
maybe?)...or maybe one of his chaos ad tracks..

I've had that one for awhile, it was the first squarepusher
album I bought because it had a recommendation (a weird
...unlexical one) by aphex on the cover. It has some great
songs, mostly due to the speed and amount it's mixed up and
altered, big loada is probably my favorite (has even more
extremely zany fast mixed up songs). The shorter the samples
used (short drum hits etc.) the easier and more
microscopically you can mix them up and stuff, which seems
to be his philosphy in music. The only album worthwile that
doesn't do this very much is maximum priest, which is great
even though its a bit slower, it concentrates on the sound
quality more.

does anyone like hardnormaldaddy? Its by far my fav
squarepusher.

I've never bought it, but I remember liking the samples I
heard. Is it even more mixed/fast/zany than big loada?

miff from cymru on 2001-10-08 22:36 [#00039542]

its old skool quick organised choas rave. i think that
describes it. some bad breaks thrown in in it just to sort
it out.

Fresch from Trondheim, Norway on 2001-10-08 23:13 [#00039546]

It's definately his best work, EVER!
It's also one of my favourite albums...
Smedley's Melody...is, er,..great. Truly.
