how many fans of the stone roses here? Their two albums are almost immaculate; beautiful some might say. Including me.

what other good tracks have they done, then? nothing on king of rock or raising hell does it for me. possibly peter piper, but thats only cos mardi gras is such a gem.. oh there was that run's house thing. that wasnt bad. nice funky drummer reshape on there the one used on urban shakedown.. i forgot that one. i think that's it though. i'm not gonna swallow any of the currently circulated rubbish about them breaking rap in america by doing a track with aerosmith cos the message , step off, hobo scratch, whistle were all in the charts before run dmc and with no rock samples..

I remember seeing them at rooftops in 1989 in glasgow. The place only held about 400 people and as you can probably guess i feel quite smug about seeing them that early on. I can remember my girlfriend at the time nearly creaming herself over the sight of ian brown and all the while i was thinking "who is this cocky cunt?". They had a guy called cressa who was basically the roses version of bez on stage and to tell you the truth I was not totally blown away by them. But the passing of time and misty eyed nostalgia has turned it into the best gig of my life. The girlfriend has long gone but the stone roses debut still stays with me, never aging and sounding as arrogant and brilliant as ever.

Man, that first Stone Roses album is a pop masterpiece... the second one is merely OK. I hate it when bands can only muster one real masterpiece, it's so frustrating.

Anus, It wouldn't be a smart comment if it had a serious intent. Since it didn't it was a smart-alec comment.
Their second album is also great - seems it's under-rated here, but that's OK.

The Stone Roses are actually mt favorite band in the world. Their second album was kinda weird, 3-4 really good songs and the rest total crap sorry to say.
But their first album was simply pure genius, mixing all kinds of different styles from rock to phsychadelia( bad writing I know!)
They had a pretty bad singer in Ian Brown but he more than made up for the singing with he´s terrific arrogance, kinda like a funny and really cool version of Liam Gallager! They had a great guitarist in John Squire and the near perfect bassist Mani plus a great drummer.
My favs are I Am the Resurrection, Fools gold, Waterfall, Made of Stone.
They had the talent to become the greatest rock band of all time but then drugs fucked them and their friendship up.
They were offered incredible sums of money to reform but always declined.
I actually hope they never will reform, that would ruin the mystic surrounding them. The spirit of Manchester in those day was never about money just pure love for music.
