eh...well there doesn?t really have to be a difference between "mixes" and "remixes" - various people use both words for the same thing...
BUT, in it?s most appropriate use of the words - the original tracks on, let?s say - "Richard D James album" - those are (the original) mixes. Mostly all tracks are mixes in way or the other. When you mix the tracks on "Richard D James album" and release them in a new form - then you could call them remixes (re-made versions of the original stuff)...
All pretty clear, isn?t it? (even I doubt now... ;) )

a mix is when you eh, "mix" 2 or more tracks..... i.e. let the start of one come in over the end of another, being allowed alter the EQ or tempo of either for affect.
a remix is when you have one tune and have its component tracks and shuffle em around, or alter em whciever way..
Warps Blech CD´s are mix albums, Warp 10+1 is a remix album. S´easy´!

i tend to think of a mix as done by the person who orginally did the song but just changed the order of stuff and put different parts heres and there. i think of remixes as done by someone else, just drawning on certain parts of the original.
and btw, which ventolin ep did you get? theyre both pretty damn cool

from what i know, a mix is an alternate, early, or rearranged version of a song, usually by the song's original artist.
a remix is when another artist rearranges, rewrites and/or recreates an artist's original work either in their own creative vision or in the name of creating a dancefloor anthem.
so, basically, i agree with hedphukker and avart.
