Yes, and it does the NetMD business as well. It is only
brand new. I have an older SJ-220 as well. Both are first
class units.

I generally use a mic to record sounds though, as headphones
aren't too good at picking them up.

now...and it is still going strong..

Very few do. But as a method for carrying copied music
around, with 4 CDs worth on one tiny disc you can't go
wrong. It is just an amazingly versitile format.

I'd rather buy one of those mp3 players with a 20gig drive
in them. My problem with minidisc is that when you put
mp3's on it certain models recompress the music, so it loses
even more quality. Plus the mp3 players are getting cheaper
and hold a lot more than 4 cd's and also have rechargable
batteries like a minidisc.

yea i heard that the format that lets you store more music
fucks with the sound...the only reason i'm choosing Minidisc
over MP3 play is the record feature. i want to dump my
vinyl stuff onto the MD then into my computer so i can burn
that stuff on cd.

As far as artists releasing on mini disc...its pretty clear
what the major formats are...i'm just using it for storage
and size factors. I end up with half of my cd collection in
my ride. this way i can keep most of it on 3 or 4
discs...and burn shit i d/l right away. i usuall have to
wait to collect all the different songs i want and then
burn. This way i can burn what i have then re-write till i
have everything i need.

The mp3 player I want can record from any source through a
line in plug, including a plug-in power mic. They used to
only be able record mp3's at 160kbs, but it may be better
now. Eithor way a 160kbs mp3 is much better than the
compression a MD uses to store 4 cd's on one disc.

...It's the Arco's line of mp3 players

MiniDisc is really best suited for mic-recording (for
samples and stuff)
If you just want to carry around and listen to other peoples
music, a mp3 player is a better choice...

it kicks a lot of ass for recording in general. i get a bit
nervous using it as a walkman.. but yeah i just hook it up
to my mixer and record hours worth of jams

johnny: me too! :) What I like the best is it?s durability -
they don?t crash that often as 20 gig-mp3 players does... :)

i have two minidisc recorders (both sony one older and one
newer, but nothing better only smaller), and i'm waiting for
the third to arrive. it is great for field recordings and
looped sample playback.
but for the mp3 music i really need one of the newest sony
mp3 player...maybe even dvd mp3....

i'd recommend it

I used to have a minidisc recorder. I just got tired of
having to record all the music onto it, but now they have
the USB ones which is nice, but I think I'd rather have an
mp3 player. For $230 (maybe less) you get a 20gig with
recording ability and an AM/FM radio (you can record from it
to). I think it's really just a matter of preference. MD
recorders here are hard to find. Not very popular in the
US.

sony are best for hi-fi seperates
sharp for the portables (although look into the netMD things
if you want easier/quicker copying)

MD can't crash like all those hard drives....and it's sooo
small and light, what is very importonat for the summer

i got my finacee a MD player for christmas, she loves it b/c
it's small and light, and very portable. i listened to a
couple songs through it and it sounded good, but the highest
bitrate it imports at is 130 or so. but even at that she can
get 2 maybe three cds on one MD.

nacmat: i downloaded gescom's minidisc from soulseek and
burnt it to cd. my portable cd player has shuffle and that
works pretty cool for the album, but it defeats their main
purpose of the album: grouping tracks to make your own songs
