not all - like that one a long time ago - i foget what it
was called - like "Mario is Lost" or somethign like that -
it was one of the worst games i have ever played...

I haven't played any of the Mario Party games, Luigi's
Mansion, Mario World 2, Mario RPG or the newest Wario for
the GBA.. But all the ones I have played are awesome. I
think Mario 3 and Mario 64 were my favorites.
Do the Donkey Kong games count?

Absolutely... when I say ''Mario'' games, I don't mean all
the spinoffs like Luigi's Mansion, Yoshi's Safari, Mario is
Missing, etc. I mean:
Super Mario Bros.
Super Mario Bros. 2
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2 (SO UNDERRATED)
Mario 64
Mario Sunshine

All of these are the REAL Mario games and are expertly
crafted. Mario is an Italian Stallion.

The Gameboy Mario games are all classics, same goes for all
the Warios... and there's great stuff like Mario Party,
Mario Kart, Mario RPG... there's some misses among the
''semi-offical'' Mario games, but the hits outnumber them.

Mario's Time Machine for example sucks my dick and won't
even swallow... but that's OK, it's not a ''real'' Mario
game.

Donkey was a main character in one of the original mario
games I'm pretty sure, so I guess he counts, but if that's
the case then yoshi's story also counts,. now there's a
tripped out game,.

i completed supermarioworld, one of a very select few i
have. nothing better to do in 1993. some levels are fucking
impossible. more recently i got hold of it again for a snes
emulator and it really freaked me out that i could remember
most of the castles.

SMB 1 and 3 (NES) + Super Mario World,
thoose are my favourites.
The N64 one was also pretty fun, but it was so different
from the others,
also Mario acted like he was retarded, 5 years old or
something running around yelling, when he was suppose to
save the princess (or whatever he was up to).
In the early games he was, like Ophecks wrote, an Italian
stallion.
He dealed with the shit like a man.

Mario Kart on SNES and N64 owns all! At least in that line
of game. I've played all of the "Real" mario games up until
the Gamecube. All of them have been kick ass so far.

But also it seems like Nintendo's got a lack of imagination
or something, they release so many games based on old
characters.
Once the characters made the games, but why not try to come
up with some new characters (instead of taking an old one).

One thing that is really stupid, is when they take an old
character - and change it so it fits the new game.

When I was a kid SMB (NES) was my fav game. Still one of the
best games I've played...
And I've played A LOT of games...

offline Duble0Syx from Columbus, OH (United States) on 2003-03-24 22:09 [#00614174]
Points: 3436 Status: Lurker

They haven't made new ones prolly because people still buy
the new games with the old characters, so they prolly don't
see much of need to. They prolly will make an attempt to
sooner or later, and they may fail miserably, they may not.

yeah.
but the games aren't good because of the characters.
Also when they make games where the characters have nothing
to do with the game (except they appeared in older
Nintendogames) such as Super Mario Kart & Super Mario Tennis
--- it feels weird.
But thoose are entertaining games.

yoshi's island is slowly becoming my favorite although i
don't think it will ever top smb3 completely. don't forget
about the game boy mario games- super mario land had that
tight ass submarine shooting level. that game had the best
music too. plus wario, don't even get me started on that
pimp

I <3 Mario ! The SNES Parts are the best IMO. Yoshis Island
has so much style but the music is really annoying.
Super Mario Sunshine is fun but I just cant make my mind up
to the 3D concept. It seems to me like they have to make
every game in 3D just to demonstrate the technical power.

true.
3D isn't used very brightly.
It's simply used because it exist, and "all games use it".
Well not all, but most games.
I wish they could make stylish games.
But it seems like few of the big companies wish to take
chances when releasing games.

game of all time.. Well, it's probably a close tie with
Secret of Mana.

Super Mario World is my favourite. That game just has it
all. Riding on yoshi is incredibly fun, and when you're
flying with that cape it actually feels like flying.
(much more so than flying in smb3). I just loved flying all
the way to the top of the level, then diving down... only
pulling up a few milimeters before i'd crash on the floor
:-p

The level design was also perfect in that one... all the
levels (all 96 of them!) are amazingly fun and entertaining.
And so much variation in themes! :-D Chocolate islands, the
ghost houses, the bowser-castles... this feels to me so much
like the ultimate mario game.

I generally think 3d mario works pretty well. Before the N64
came out i had no idea how it would work, but when i first
played mario64 it just felt completely natural :-)

What i don't like about the 3d games though is that there
are basically only a limited amount of worlds, and in each
of them you have to do several assignments. I suppose there
just isn't enough memory to create more worlds, and it was
invented because the game would last too short with only 8
or 9 levels... but still... it kinda ruins the feeling of
being on a journey and discovering new worlds all the time.

I'd really like for the levels to be a little more
straightforward. Just get from start to finnish. As much as
i like mario64 and mario sunshine... i do miss that aspect
of the old games.

DKC is amazing, and the soundtrack is first rate... I used
to just let Donkey Kong float around in the water levels
while I listened to that wonderful music. ''Under the
seeeeaaaaaaaa... under the seeeeaaaaaa... darling it's
better, down where it's wetter''.

Also, mario kart on the snes was WAY better than on n64! The
n64 had some pretty dull levels :-/ (rainbowroad (!), that
desert-level, fucking bowser's castle (with the thwomp that
always blocks the doorway), the highway level with
all those trucks and busses, the wario-themed level).

On the snes all the courses were alot smaller (almost no lap
would last longer than 20 or 30 seconds)... and it was just
insane :-D I knew the tracks by heart... every little corner
of them, and it just became all about fighting and taking
out the other drivers. I've honestly never had more fun with
any other game than i had with mario (in 2 player mode
ofcourse). It also had some *really* clever shortcuts that
almost always failed, but yet you kept trying ;-) Man i
loved that game...

Mario Kart 64 is much more an ordinary racing-games with a
couple of attacks thrown in.

I actually liked Mario Kart 64 more... except for the fact
that multi-player Grand Prix was fucked up because weapons
were TOO effective and were the key to victory even more
than skillz.

The beach-levels also had some cool shortcuts! Small
pathways of shallow water to drive through... one of those
levels could be done in half the time (or less) with proper
use of shortcuts.

And yeah i think i remember the one you talk about... that
was a loooong jump wasn't it? I remember drowing in the lava
alot with that shortcut :-p

I didn't like the balloons in 64 either, they were too
distracting. The orbs from the first one were better, I
don't know why they felt they had to change it.

"fucked up because weapons were TOO effective"

lol yeah, i know what you mean. In that game you're almost
afraid to try hard, because you just know if you get ahead,
you'll get one of those blue homing-shells chasing you, or
you'll be shrunk by lightning... it sucks :-(

But then again, so do the tracks ;-)
And the fact that koopa was replaced by wario.

DiddyKong Racing is the game that mariokart64 could (and
should) have been.
