Anyone who can recommend artists/releases from this label? I'm looking for some Fennesz-like stuff. A friend of mine suggested Andreas Tilliander. Are Mille Plateaux-mp3´s hard to find?

Kid606 released an EP entitled "P.S I love you" on Mille Plateaux. It's the only MP release I've heard and it's quite monotonous clicks n cuts -type stuff. I wouldn't really recommend it unless you really dig Kid606.

you should check out "clicks&cuts" series- there were 3 parts of it.
no recommendation really- i dont like the whole click-thing (with little exceptions- jan jelinek is great)
its funny but pure electronica is a bit too dry for me at the moment- i need an organic element now.

It's the clicky thing I'm looking for. I've heard about some 3xcd "best of click-hop" or something, but I can't find it for sale.

i got the clicks & cuts 2, liked it, but now im a bit bored by it. and with the whole click and cuts scene.
scape on the other hand, that label is far superior for my taste.

Andreas Tilliander : Ljud
is worth checking out, if you're looking for minimal glitch. Kid606's PS i love you is pretty good, if you warm to it, but it just feels wrong with "kid606" as the artist name. I've got clicks + cuts 2 which is interesting and in parts very nice - but not consistently captivating for my likes and wants.
Have you checked out Oval? MilleP isn't in general (as far as I've come across) too Fennesz like?

yeah, dataplex by ryoji ikeda is quite good.
also, can't go wrong with pretty much any alvo noto release (although i don't enjoy as much his more experimental stuff under his 'noto' alias).

Does 'clicks & cuts' refer to a particular production technique, or is it simply a name for the albums?

both. it's a genre and and it's also been used to name three compilations on the mille plateaux label (clicks & cuts vol. 1,2 and 3)

So it's a genre, too? I had never heard of it until today. Is it a reference to how the music was made (computer clicks and ctrl-x), or how it sounds (clicky beats and breaks)? or.... both?

from wiki:
Glitch (also known as clicks and cuts from a representative compilation series by the German record label Mille Plateaux) is a genre of electronic music that became popular in the late 1990s with the increasing use of digital signal processing, particularly on computers. The origins of glitch music are derived from the failure of digital technology. The effects of failure in technology, such as bugs, crashes, system errors, hardware noise, skipping and audio distortion, can be captured on computers and provide the basic building blocks of Glitch music.[1] Often considered a sub-genre of electronica or intelligent dance music, glitch eschews traditional instrumentation, preferring instead the use of mechanized and non-natural sounds. Though rhythm is a central focal point of glitch, the style's various sub-genres range from the ambient to the dance-oriented. [2]
Glitch is often produced on computers using modern digital production software to splice together small "cuts" (samples) of music from previously recorded works. These cuts are then integrated with the signature of glitch music: beats made up of glitches, clicks, scratches, and otherwise "erroneously" produced or sounding noise. These glitches are often very short, and are typically used in place of traditional percussion or instrumentation. Skipping CDs, scratched vinyl records, circuit bending, and other noise-like distortions figure prominently into the creation of rhythm and feeling in glitch; it is from the use of these digital artifacts that the genre derives its name. However, not all artists of the genre are working with erroneously produced sounds or are even using digital sounds.

Not too many clicks but a lot of cuts, sharp sharp cuts, Stewart Walker "Stabiles" is an ol'classic and I think it's on Mille Plateaux and it sounds nothing like Fennesz, sorry.

Five years! Wow. This topic is a good example of how Xltronic worked for me five years ago. It really helped me discover new music. Now it's the place to be if I want midget porn, funny links and "listen to my new funny tune!"
It's sad...or is it?
