Why do WHSmiths not stock The Wire? The guy told me that
last month's (with 26 Mixes review) would be in soon, and it
never showed up.

I'll scan it in an hour or two.
I have OCR so that won't be a problem.
Very interesting. I *never* buy mags but I was in the Tube
and saw Sean and Rob's faces hanging in a Kiosque and rushed
over to get it. Interesting mag it might have to check it
out more often

I'm in 2 minds about scanning this article...

The Wire is a very small magazine and, to be honest, I'd
rather people bought a copy....they have been on the verge
of going under for a while so they do need your support if
you can afford a copy...

But if everyone wants a scan, then posthere and I'll go for
it...but pls, buy a copy of you can...

p.s Aphex gets a little piece in Invisible Jukebox as
welll...

I'm subscribed to 'The Wire' Jand, post it for the kids, if
they appreciate it maybe they'll buy it next time they see
it on their newstands. Anything that gets people interested
in music and communication can only be good.....

Prolly not, there doesn't seem to be much of anything good
published here. At least the US usually gets the bloodiest
versions of games...

Maybe it is that my local shops are crap, but I think if the
Wire is in danger of going under that they should make an
effort to get stocked in the larger chains.

It's the same with the smaller music labels. If Hymen and
Zod got their stuff into Amazon they would get far greater
exposure and more sales as a result. For that matter, I
don't even see the new Gescom in Amazon, whereas Warp's
upcoming releases have been available for preorder for
months.

Amazon used to have lots of small label output. Hell, there
was a time when they had about 20 :zoviet*france: releases.
Trouble is they couldn't keep stocking stuff that wasn't
selling so severely culled the amount of music they
carried.

Having product on Amazon doesn't really increase it's
exposure.

martin hm quote:

"Maybe it is that my local shops are crap, but I think if
the
Wire is in danger of going under that they should make an
effort to get stocked in the larger chains."

i think that's what they do mate. make an effort. do you
have any idea how difficult it is and how much money you
have to spend to get accepted by the chains? There are
certain minimum qualifications you have to fulfil before
they'll start stocking you and then it'll be in the 10
biggest branches, etc etc. and you have to give them
crippling discounts. they have magazines over a barrel. it
is the same for small labels with HMV, Virgin and Tower.

"It's the same with the smaller music labels. If Hymen and
Zod got their stuff into Amazon they would get far greater
exposure and more sales as a result. For that matter, I
don't even see the new Gescom in Amazon, whereas Warp's

there's really no excuse using such a piss-poor service as
amazon when there's dedicated and hardworking online shops
like warpmart, boomkat, skimo, juno, normanrecords etc.
fucking traitor.

I buy tons from warpmart, boomkat and norman. juno not so
much as they don't stock an awful lot of stuff I want (Mu
for instance). But I wouldn't say Amazon's service was
piss-poor either. I've certainly had no problem with them.

I must have really ruffled some feathers to warrant a verbal
dressing-down from the elusive splodgechops.

Sorry. Obviously as I'm not the owner of a small label /
magazine I don't know the excessive demands of the larger
chains. It will always be hard on the small guy as the
larger fish are just in it for the money (see supermarkets
vs. farmers). And as you see I do patronize the stores you
mentioned and the smaller music labels (just got Find
Candace this morning, bought from Para$ite in Bristol), but
in the end I'm going to go wherever gives me the best deal.

I'm sure there are plenty of Americans here who scooped up
WITBOAS from BestBuy without another thought.

one excuse could be that you can get £5 off EVERY purchase
at amazon if you set up a new hotmail account for every cd
you buy.
