THE INCREDIBLE STRING BAND

boards of canada has mentioned these guys a few times as an
influence so i d/led a couple albums off soulseek....

it took me a few songs to get into them... it can be very
strange stuff, even bizzarre stuff at times (especially
since i haven't been exposed to much folk) but i think this
is also 'legitimately' weird music.. sort of psychodelic
folk from the sixties (they played at woodstock)

ive read a bit about them, and they're described as "Acid
Folk" and "Trickster Folk"

imagine the old songs you used to sing at the campfire at
camp... grown up and on psychodelic drugs lol

its often very playful... definitely has an absurd sense of
humor

and the outdoors/nature are definitely a big influence, in
teh sounds and the lyrics
(the lyrics are really good btw)

btw you can hear a clear influence on BoC... especially in
the wind sounds on Geogaddi

anyway check them out u might like them.. but they are
definitely NOT electronic lol

btw i really like the organic-ness of their music.. all
unaltered human voices and acoustic instruments... a nice
change from all the electronic music i listen to

Yeah. I saw the photos comparisons between BoC and the
incredible string band. Probably just an homage to them from
BoC.

hehehe

i downloaded a couple songs based on cabbog's
recommendation. i dunno....it wasn't my taste......but maybe
i didn't give them enough of a chance.

sometimes if i don't like it on first listen, i find it hard
to listen again......

some of their songs are really weird.. i still dont like all
their stuff, but more and more of it is growing on me

try the album "The Big Huge", i think its the best by far to
start with (although i haven't heard all their stuff)

for individual songs from that album try:

Lordly Nightshade
Cousin Caterpillar
The Circle Is Unbroken

does anyone here have lots of ISB mp3s?
i have trouble finding many, even on soulseek (kazaas
practically useless on the matter)

btw, check out the song "October Song" too!

No, 'The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter' is by far their best
album.. Try doing a search for the song 'Witches Hat'.
Curious, childlike, magical.

I have some of their material. Really nice and spontaneous
setups. Imaginative. I'm used to folk music but this takes a
while to get into.
