I'm new to this and I want to write some stuff with drums and analog/atmospheric vibe. Which of these would be the better choice to get started?
Korg ES1 Roland MC-303, MC-505 Yamaha AN200, SU700
I'd like to get started on a smaller budget ~$300 but I'd probably spend more to make sure I don't get something that sounds terrible.
Thanks!

Don't get any of the MC stuff. That's more like hip hop and trance shit. Nothing like atmosphere music whatsoever. I'd get an old Boss Dr-550 or 660 and an Alesis Quadraverb. The Boss ones are drum machines, and the Alesis is an effects rackmount. You could get pretty much whatever you wanted too with those modules. I'd suggest a 660 over a 550 though, due to the larger range of sounds.
I hope that helps.

get a nice cheap old (or new for that matter) analog synth, maybe an analog drummachine too, and use your computer for the digital stuff like sampling, effects, sequencing, recording..

That's cool, it didn't sound like a commandment. ;) I'd like to keep the setup kinda portable and I wasn't planning on doing the sequencing on the computer. I have a computer, but I'm looking for something else to do w/my time other than sitting in fornt of it, hehe. Are the sounds just not very good on the units I mentioned above?

I agree with kybernetiks comands. The things you mentioned aren't that good really if you're after an analog aound, get an MC 202 or a SH 101, make some sounds and sequence/play around in your pc.

the MC-stuff sux, imho all new roland stuff does the ES-1 might be more useful, though i'm not a fan of analog emulation, i want the real stuff.. digital should do nice digital sounds, not trying to emulate analog and fail miserably (imho of course) same for the AN.. though i'm sure you can do some nice music with them, i just prefer real analog =)
