Aphex twin still the greatest??

I bet that a good amount of people on this board came
here because of aphex twin... i know that the whole idm
genre opened up because i heard afx....

i discovered so much good new music but the crazy thing
is after all the countless new artist's i've heard... aphex
twin still is the best and has the best albumns... i mean
rdj, ctd and drukqs are the best electronic albumn's
ever.... the only other artist's on the same caliber are
autechre... who are perhaps equally as great but not
quite....

so the point was that after all this time aphex twin is
still number 1

I had this same feeling yesterday

and you didnt mention:
I care because you do, saw 1 and 2, abb3...

and so many others

aphex is really the king

well he will have to demonstrate in the idm championship, he
is in 1/4 finals already

E65 are groundbreaking in the field of IDM! You all know it
you're just in denial... Yes, Aphex Twin is why I'm here so
it's his fault.

three i mentioned alone he is still on top....

it's just lately i've been thinking that druqks is one of
the greatest albumns of all time

Aphex is great no doubt, it's just for me at least he
doesn't have that otherworldy sound that Autechre have,
Autechre are from some distant robotic galaxy beyond the
milky way...god bless them and their robotic clankiness

well after last years championships (woofers championship
and nacmats league) in both, squarepusher finished as
second

so if you feel that AE and BOC are better VOTE for them in
this championship

remember that the group A was ended yesterday and group B
will end tonight so hurry up

boc aren't the same as the others in that although their
production techniques have changed to become a little
crisper or whatever, their style isn't expected to change.

evolution is a necessity with afx sp and ae.

afx first, the sp, the ae

ae can't be the best. they have slowly got more and more
lunny to the point where confield and gg left them with two
options

1) either become merzbow or
2) do something innovative and new with their sounds

draft7.30 is an attempt at no. 2

merzbow

never listened to this

is it good?
is it idm?

merzbow = irritating noise.

some claim he is this extreme artist who is doing these
subtle rhythms and stuff under all the earbleeding static...
i think its shite.

ae are great - there's no doubting.

this new album was a chance to show that they are up there
with the best but no no, they banged out an extremely good,
yet predictable bit of work - a step back you might say

where next for ae?

no more releases perhaps? it's a possibility

offline tibbar from harrisburg, pa (United States) on 2003-03-21 09:11 [#00607524]
Points: 10513 Status: Lurker

yeah... for me it just boils down to ae and afx... i like
some of the "others" alot, but if i was on a desert
island.... you know the story.

offline jamesa from United Kingdom on 2003-03-21 09:16 [#00607540]
Points: 1080 Status: Lurker

ae over sp???????

just look at Sps arsenal of tracks - he'll take you through
every emotion on that desert island of yours

AE will just remind of that sweatshop you worked in from the
ages of 6 til 18 and the steel factory you were forced to
sleep in

Who gives a shizen if it's predicatable if it's 'extremely
good' as you say it is (i'm gonna wait for the cd on april
7th). ae rule the idm world with a rod of iron, gwahaha >:D

it's extremely good in terms of the average idm record you
here but as far as being the kings of idm no way siree.

if it was say by Jega or someone i would say, damn, that's a
good album, respect!

but it's not, it's by autechre who've created some amazing
stuff - but to put it along side Go Plastic or Drukqs NO WAY
compadre!!!

of course your opinion is your opinion blah blah blah

i think it's unfair to compare draft with previous
(admittedly more innovative) albums. draft is by far the
most interesting idm album to be released since confield &
go plastic (not counting the excellent releases by o'rourke,
ehlers and fenn'o berg), though, and yes, that prolly says
more about other artists than about ae.

offline AE_King from Australia on 2003-03-21 09:29 [#00607590]
Points: 749 Status: Regular

Don't try and convince me otherwise, autechre got me into
the genre and I listen to them more than any other artist
because I think theyre so much better than anyone else :D
Go Plastic and Druqks are both nice albums though (well the
first half of GP anyways)

i dont get draft 730 being predicatable..
it does sound a lot confield, but theres more flexibility in
there, all sorts of amazing grooves which have taken the
past month or 2 to sink in

autechre are about ten times more mature musically than most
idm artists. they are refined, deep, and have a certain
sophistication i find charming.
