Only news so far:

"The original Transformers return in new PlayStation 2 title
from Takara!
In possibly the best news we've ever reported on, the mighty
Autobots and evil Decepticons are set to make a huge
comeback in Transformers: The Game, set for release in the
autumn on the PS2.

These shots are from a very early build of the game, an
action title which will lean heavily on the 'bots ability to
transform into various vehicles and other contraptions.
Hopefully all our favourites will be included, and as you
can see from these screens; Optimus Prime, Megatron,
Starscream and Jazz have all made the cut so far. More news
and pictures on what is sure to be the Best Thing Ever as
and when. "

You should know better than that- I never have time to play
other consoles- I still have over 50 DC games I've only
"tested" and not actually played yet. Not to mention a
considerable number of GBA games ;)

More transformers news...

One year later... the game is NOTHING like it started out.
It's no longer Generation 1. But I don't really care. Anyone
played it yet? I know there's lots of Transfomer fans here.

This game is really good. If you have a PS2, and you like
large robots, or you like blowing shit up, get it.

Some highlights-
1- TRANSFORMING! Shit, it rocks. You can transform ''on a
dime'', on the ground or in the air. Smash into enemies, fly
over chasms, drive down mountains at mega high speed,
untransform after hitting a ramp, fly through the air while
blasting enemies in robot form, then transform AGAIN before
you hit the ground and make your escape. Fucking awesome.

2- bosses. You fight a guy named Tidal Wave. He's an
aircraft carrier, who transforms into a robot. Needless to
say, he's fucking huge.

3- the levels are big. Really big. You can stand on a
mountain and look miles into the distance, and make out
landmarks that you have to get to, and sentry Decepticons.
It's like a 5 minute drive in Optimus' truck form. Then when
you get there, you can see a few more miles of landscape,
all of which you can explore. You evenutally get a hang
glider, and then you'll appreciate even MORE how massive the
environments are. If you can see it, you can drive or fly
over to it, and blow it up. The scale for this game is
huge.

4- exploring this huge world pays. You can find hidden items
and unlock PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCMENTS (Bumblebee telling
some kids not to run away from home, etc), and they are
awesome. You can unlock art, comics, soundtracks, and they
are awesome. You can unlock pictures of toys, and they are
awesome. You can unlock movies and clips, and they are
awesome.

5- the game is hard. It will kick your ass. The enemies are
tough and they huge and they are EVERYWHERE. But it's very
rewarding and hardcore. Way tougher than I expected.

6- Starscream, Cyclonus, Megatron... UNICRON... 'nuff said.

7- A sequel is already in the works, because Atari knows
this shit is awesome.

I haven't run into him yet. If I do, he'll probably
transform into an MP3 player. Megatron is too cool to be a
handgun these days, now he's a tank.

And Starscream's wings are now dual swords when he's in his
robot form.

I had a hell of a time getting past Starscream, guy doesn't
pull his punches. I really miss Chris Latta's voice, though.
:_-(

This game rocks. Anybody who's anybody owns it, plans to own
it, or will rent it for a week from Blockbuster.

The graphics are impressive considering the hardware, but
it's too detailed and too massive for it's own good. Some
shimmering, and a bit of pop-in, though nowhere NEAR as much
as I expected. But that doesn't matter when you're Optimus
driving through a group of 30 Decepticons and their limbs go
flying everywhere.

Good call. You won't regret it.

Here's some shots from the epic fucking battle against Tidal
Wave. I loved this fight so much. The developers sure are
getting the PS2 to do some impressive things with it's 4
year old hardware.

When you first see Tidal Wave, he's a battleship, then he
transforms into a fucking walking robot and comes after you,
firing rockets and shit. He's huge.

And the game doesn't cheat. He's not just in the distance...
you can walk right up to him and punch him in the toe. He'll
laugh.

The only way to beat him is to climb up onto a mountain and
snipe at his head. He's so huge, you can't even see his head
unless you're 100 feet above ground.

Whoa... that's some nice bump mapping.

Anyway, get this game. That fight alone is worth the price
of admission. Before you fight Tidal Wave, you actually have
a mission running around fighting other Decepticons INSIDE
of him.

And it only gets better. Here's the level after you beat
Tidal Wave.
