I'm not sure of the exact stats, but certainly, pictures do increase bandwidth usage (not just for the server, but for each user to DL) One of the reasons avatars are so small, limited file size, not allowed flash etc. is to save space and reduce page loading times. Obviously, donating to the site (and hence being able to post pictures) offsets this a bit, but it's just one of those features that should be used in moderation :) |
