is the gamecube worth getting just for these two games (and maybe Resident evil zero)?
I've only got the PS2 which is great for DVD's but there are hardly any decent games for it. I'm only looking forward to Silent Hill 3.
Metroid Prime is out this Friday here and I can get the gamecube for less than £80 but i'm just not sure if it's worth it...

Absolutely! Metroid Prime is reason enough to buy a Gamecube, it's amazing. Zelda will be even better... plus, Mario Sunshine, Pikmin, the Resident Evil games, Eternal Darkness, Starfox Adventures, the upcoming Mario 128 and Wario... awesome system.
But yeah, Metroid Prime alone is definitely worth the price of admission.

Metroid Prime: Not very challenging, took me about 20 hours to finish. Now Hard mode is something else.
If you loved the Metroid series, then you'll love Prime. They kept the game very accurate to the rest. It actually occurs after the first Metroid and before Metroid II (i may be wrong)

slint: i know the ps2 is ok, ff X2 should be good when it comes out, didn't like the last one much, felt a bit rushed... i was dissapointed with metal gear too... not enough stealth moments, was more like a shoot em up. I hope the next silent hill game is good!
the gamecube has more must-have games though...
halo vs metroid prime
which is better?

That's a tough question. I'd have to go with Halo solely for it's multiplayer extendibility.. I still play it every day.
All things aside, they're two '10's in my book.

someone has mentioned that Autechre was credited in music/sound production for the game metroid prime, but thats false... i played and beat the game and saw no mention of their names. I even recorded the credits on VHS just to be sure i didn't miss a thing.

The music in Metroid is bad. Shit the SNES had a better soundtrack.
