HEXANE from Melbourne on 2001-10-02 03:23 [#00038261]

...as it reads on the back of the new drukqs album.
wtf???!!!!

Clobe Smith from over here on 2001-10-02 03:35 [#00038268]

hmm ... if you are talking about the 2-track promo, it seems
like both sides can be read by a cd player ... (i promise
you one of the sides plays 54 cymru beats and cock 10).

maybe...perhaps to prevent the whole mp3 trading
fiasco...not that it hasn't already happened with drukqs

i was reading about this yesterday. it's going to be the
same with michael jackson's new album as well. they've (the
industry) decided that they can stop copyright infringement
by making a cd incapable of being played on anything other
than a cd player (this means cd roms). according to an
article i read at www.excite.com, they have been secretly
releasing cd's in this format for the past few months, with
NO WARNING on the back that they can't be played on your
comp. it's all a part of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act
of '98 (in the U.S.), and they are working on passing the
equivalent of this law in the U.K. though i can't currently
remember what the name of it was. the organization that was
the main force behind the DMCA is currently working on
getting a global copyright law that operates at least in a
similar way to the DMCA. i strongly urge all of you to look
into this "DMCA" and find out as much as you can. there is
some seriously fucked up, unjust, and frankly very scary
shit going on in relation to this law. for one, a russian
man is currently on trial here in the states (facing up to
25 years in prison) for going to a conference in nevada and
TALKING about a program he wrote and uses (legally) in his
home country. this is not cool, this is in my opinion the
beginning of us losing our freedom as autonomous beings. if
you care at all about the fact that you can pay for
something and use it in your home as you please, you should
check this out, because that rule is about to change.
