have you ever purchased cdr-releases ?

hi!

I'm just wondering this because our tiny experimental label
has released couple cdr-releases and right now I'm wondering
about continuing with the cdr-format or moving into cd's...

so... have you ever purchased cdr-releases ?

if yes... where and how much you paid for it ? were you
satisfied with the quality (music, product) ?

if no... why not ?

and additional question... how much it matters if the
cdr-release is for sale on on-line vs. off-line (casual
record-store) shop ?

thanks in advance.

if you think you can afford it, move on to pressed cd's.

I've never paid for CD-rs (although I suppose AFX's 2
remixes is pretty close), but I know my local record store
does them by local bands.

I would rather purchase a "real" cd, or I would be VERY
critical about the price of the cd-r - it should be VERY
low..

qrter : price... how low ?

6$ (+shipping) ?

or 3$ (+shipping) ?

shipping is appx. 1-2$ atleast while delivered from where I
live (Finland).

I know that atleast itchwack(?).com are selling their
cdr-releases for 3$ per copy.

I'd pay $3-6 for a cd-r if I liked the music.

tibbar : thanks from the link. their service looks
interesting... atleast there's lot of options for packaging
the cd's.

while comparing bulk-prices (1000 copies) to some other
companies I've found... they are maybe bit high. I've found
bulk-prices which goes around 600$ for 1000 copies...

CDrs I've seen tend to be about £2-£4,
Even for eps/albums...

tapecomplex is prolly more in your price-range than
diskmakers. a little less expensive, still really good work
though.

I probably wouldn't pay $6.

$4 tops.

simply because production costs can't be that high.

actually production costs per copy on cdr's are surprisingly
high... they are much more than per copy price with cd's.

if you have printed labels on cdr's the production costs is
appx. 2$ per copy. duplicated cdr's cost over 2$ per copy
(atleast here in Finland, at US/UK production costs can be
bit cheaper).

tibbar : thanks again. :=)

btw. if you're interested... check http://diy.luumu.biz ,
I've collected there quite a lot 'un-sorted' information
about manufacturing cd/cdr's... links to radio-stations,
labels, shops etc. etc.

qrter : addition... of course production prices on cd vs.
cdr can't be compared directly because usually cd's are
pressed +500 copies, while cdr's are duplicated 300 copies
or less...

3 euros or dolars are a good prize

mortsto-x : with previous releases (specially OVO) we have
already done it. :=)

the label printing is bit problematic, because that part
usually raises production costs.
