A common misbelief about the Snuffle-upagus is that it belongs in the family Elephantidae, along with Loxodonta africana and Elephus
maximus. However, the similarities between elephants and snuffle-upagi are actually only the product of convergent evolution. In fact, the species upagus, of the genus snuffle, belongs in the order Rodentia. Like rats, snuffle-upagi must constantly gnaw to keep their incisor teeth from growing too long and as a result, they can be very dangerous. Also like rodents, snuffle-upagi have fur and long tails. Their ears, however, have become so vestigal as to have stopped functioning. This was helpful knowledge for hunters, before hunting them was prohibited due to their endangerment. Their are so few snuffle-upagi today that it is even often believed that they are beasts of myth, like unicorns. To distinguish snuffle-upagus tracks from those of elephants, simply look for the characteristic tail wake as seen in the below illustrations.

Another common misbelief about the Snuffle-upagus is that anybody's interested in it.

I have to fix my display of those tracks too. And I have to make ANOTHER draft of the report *sigh* since I just found out I spelled "there" wrong.
