anyone have notation for making drum patterns of the
jungle/drum and bass/drill and bass type? i'm personally too
lazy to sit in front of my drum machines and experiment with
proper sounds and timing to do it right.

Just randomize your sounds ! REASON is especially good for
this kinda stuff ! just dont forget to put the Snare on the
5 & 13th, to get a constant GROOVE !?
Or maybe use RECYCLE to get the MIDI file of a Drumloop.

I hope u like my shitty ass advice...kekeke

just make a pattern (a not-so-long sequence of drum hits
that sounds fairly good) then on each pattern repetition,
vary stuff?

Go to you local music store and pick up drum charts for Jazz
and Latin Percusion. Specially Jazz, alot of D&B is rooted
in Jazz (just super fast of coarse). You can try copying the
fills from Big Band Jazz in step mode and it should get you
half way there, you have to noodle around with it of coarse.
If you can find any transcriptions from Buddy Rich or Gene
Krupa that would be gold.

Hope that helps some.

i have trouble with snare placement i guess. and then today,
i've been listening to alot of squarepusher and have been
wondering how he gets good breaks.

pah, square pusher only budges squares. Otto von schirach
pushes squares and rectangles to boot. Listen to 8000 bc if
you havn't.

otto von schirach is very good. i'm going to listen to
Escalo Frio in a few minutes.

i've listened to some breaks and now i know good placement
for snares and hats.

totally irrelevant but i love how in the documentary
'scratch' rob swift breaks down turntable scratch
notation... shit is sooo complex, it's nice to see so many
turntablists really up on their musiciology. it helps
"legitimize" the artform in the eyes of the staunch
conservatives...

totally irrelevant, but still a great drum-sequencer;
ReBirth.

All these questions - if you are lazy why bothered with
making music? (often asked myself that! ; )

It?s really not that hard, sample a good break, cut free
some of the drumsounds and add them on top - whambam! - one
hell of a drillnbass-beat!

Most of all EXPERIMENT and LISTEN. Of course that?s the way
musics always been done.

Listen to "Do you know Squarepusher". Now that's complex.
Rhythm-perfection. ^^
