I read an interview in the paper about how they listened to Geogaddi continuously while recording their new album.
And then they rip off the picture of Michael and Marcus sitting in a field. Look at the cover of Ether Song.
Grr, homage or rip-off?

Rip off. The fact that 90%+ of the people who buy the turin breaks album will never know about the BoC influence make it a rip off in my book.
Hopefully a few people will read about it then discover BoC through it...

The article.
Paridjanian appears, looking confused, then shuffles into the kitchen while Knights begins to pull out a few CDs. First up is Geogaddi by Boards of Canada, the analogue-synth duo from Scotland. "We were listening to this a lot during the recording of the album," says Knights. "It's electronic music that has progressed beyond the level of showing what synthesisers can do, and it sounds very old, like it's been dug up out of the ground. For electronic music to sound like it has weight and history is rare - electronic folk music, basically."

Really, a cover is a cover. I havent heard these guys so I couldnt say for myself, but if the MUSIC is a rip off of BOC, then they are a rip off. I'd probably just think that BoC inspired them... not that they were ripping them off. And I like the quote claiming that Geogaddi sounds as if it had been dug out of the ground, thats a cool way of thinking about it. Might even add some new elements next time I try and visualize the music in Geogaddi.

I'd say they're quite Indie.They're ok. I wouldn't say they're electronic artists at all.
