coil - ether

this track is just magnificent, i see no other words to
describe it. maybe it is a suicide song (the 'ether' being a
poison, or a drug used to lose contact with reality, "turn
[his] mind off"), suicide in the most lyrical (not the right
adjective to use but i can't find it!!) way, with
loneliness, feeling your last moments sad but still aware
enough to feel not only pain but also the beauty of the
situation... it is not perfectly clear, maybe it could be
desensibilisation too, but it surely is something sad,
dramatic, and beautiful at the same time. and at the state
of mind i am in at the moment, it almost made me cry. there
aren't not many songs that can do that to me. ;_;

for the anecdote, i used to hate piano, my parents made me
study it for six years or something like that and i never
liked piano - but 'red queen' and 'ether' alone by coil made
me change my mind about this instrument...
and maybe this song would change my mind about suicide too,
if i weren't already thinking what i think about it. (but
that is not really the subject, i just wanted to share my
feelings about this track - if anyone else loves it...)

(i'm going to bed now... to turn my mind off too...
temporarily. fortunately or unfortunately, my time doesn't
seem to have come yet)

Thighpaulsandra works magic with the ivories..

I'm not sure which I like better; Ether or Paranoid Inlay.

"On a clear day I can see forever..
That the underworld is my oyster"

latin och celtic or something like that...

actually Ether was used quite frequently as a Surgical
Sedative..many people use it as a recreational drug as
well..so doubt if just use of the word Ether signifies
suicide..there is also the Ether theory..in Victorian times
that..the whole world's atmostphere is filled with ether and
that ether was the medium that enabled the travel of light
and sound etc..

btw which album is it on?

Red Queen is a deliscious song...

Dark river is a cool song I just found, It's kinda ambient.
Totally laid back

chambre noire > i heard rumours it was in enochian... don't
know at all - maybe it is in latin too (i thought i heard
"dies irae" but i'm probably wrong). anyway, the ending of
it is sublime, too.

flea > Red Queen is on Musick To Play In The Dark, volume 1,
and Ether on Musick To Play In The Dark, volume 2.
volume 2 is much harder to get into, it took me months to
really appreciate it. it is like a sick distorted version of
volume 1. the both sides of a coin / the moon, with a dark
and a bright side?

sadly I only have 2 coil cds (musick to play in the dark
vol1, 2 seems to be more harder to find and I have constant
shallowness leads to evil.) i love both of em but often
their stuff costs a whole lot of $ so its hard to get their
stuff but I really want all of it(some day)

MachineofGod > Coil albums are (almost) always hard (and
long...) to acquire.

According to Balance it's "insect jabber"..
Has anyone received the first of the 4 live albums yet? I
should have them all along with whatever artifacts and
curiousities are included as well as Cyclobe's new ep by the
end of this week.

anyone wanna buy the elph 12to2000 cdep? i have a pristine
copy and it is, i think, the best of their new material (i
hate balances lyrics). i just never listen to it anymore. it
is in PERFECT condition. listened to approxiamtely 3 times.
consists of one 20 minute track, mostly instrumental, there
are some vox at a point (basically just balance saying "in
dreams" over and over).

Cabbog - the customary delays with Threshold House orders
have lead to all the people who ordered the Live Set Special
Edition receiving one of the CDs (Live 4) over the next
couple of weeks, but the rest of the CDs, and the art
objects are gonna be another couple of months probably.
World Serpent have not even pressed the other CDs yet,
believe it or not. And the art objects are not complete.
This is straight from the mouth of Sleazy.
