vsnares..why do you like his music?

do you enjoy the music itself or the tech & effects used

it's good music and i think it will still be entertaining
five or ten years from now even when the techniques sound
dated. at least some of the stuff... like "we are oceans"
outstanding track

my fav is we are oceans

i love the few piano notes after the lady sais WE ARE
OCEANS.

*ding ding . ding ding ding*

Oh yeah, you know what I'm talking about.

The voice, while simple and easily irritating, sounds like
it's coming from a mermaid who lives 10,000 feet under the
surface.

lots of energy, and makes ur mind wonder when u cant keep up
with it :-)

track 2 on doll doll doll, (cant remember the title) is
great when the girl's voice changes into a trumpet :-)

1. Because he kicks Squarepusher's ass.

2. Tracks like Good Jungle, Crackest and of course One Eye -
just have so much aggression - but then he can switch it up
and do things like Winter In the Belly of a Snake - he's a
rare breed. Top 5 producers right now.

Sorry I couldn't resist - but it is truly how I feel -
Squarepusher sounds so flat and wanky when played directly
before or after the VS.

I disagree with you..re:Squarepusher
VSnares's jungle'n'drill stuff sounds forced to me..created
for the sole purpose of out drilling the previous masters of
drill (SP, AFX etc)..comes out in your words..wanky

but I like VS's glitchy stuff..because a lot of thought and
effort has gone into it keeping it veering on the edge
between total unpredictability and balls out experimentation
and accessibility

the song itself. fuck effects, if it don't sound good i
don't see the point. i don't dislike effects, just i don't
like them alone, they need to add to the song.

i agree-sometimes it feels like he's simply showing off how
well he can programme his wacky effects, rather than make a
piece of music.

This stuff will be seriously dated soon (IMHO)...I used to
be woooed of my feat by all this drill n' bass, but now it
bores me (even though I realise it's pretty hard to pull
off)

squarepusher? ive given up on him. i just bought Go Plastic
today...what a piece of shite. so samey, its like he used
the exact same instruments on every track....it goes in my
'backgound music' collection.

hardly backround music! but I agree-while I used to love
this album, it now seems highly repetitive (soundwise)

Songs like 'poor kakarookee' and 'dollmaker' are kickass. I
also like the soundscapes he does. Bannana Seat Girl is a
badass jazz tune, while British IDM Present Fanfare (The
Hawaiian Hockey Song) starts chill until the drums kick in.
And just when you think VS is the most hardcore songwriter,
he stumps you with a track like "dismantling five years".

Vsnares is painter and his pictures are wicked.

actually I'd say vsnares relies more on actual musical
structure as opposed to just wacky textures and effects than
a lot of people.

VS is just gets harsh for the sake of being harsh
you dont get "songs" or "pieces of music" as other artists

lemme guess, it was the vocals that prolly ruined it for
you. I dont care for them at all, should have stayed
instrumental the whole album.

no it's not just the vocals.. though they were atrocious ..
(on "dad" .. what is he singing to!? rhythmically I mean..
like what are acting as his queues on that track?) I kinda
thought the "tatoo" vocals were kinda cool.. and I was
turned of by his covering of a fucking danzig song.. though
that is one of the better songs I've managed to listen to..

..the problem I have with it is its sparsity.. most of the
album is just very empty...like there's a (shitty) distant
melody of sorts.. then there's like an off-beat
pitter-patter of various makeshift snares and bass kicks...
and I think the thing that motivates this guy as an artist
is the limitless possibilities that are open to him via this
technology.. liek there could be a sound here, here, here ,
here... here and other places that otherwise wouldn't be
possible.. but that doens't mean it sounds good

and absolutely nothing grabbed me . it's boring. it has low
melodic value.. and his rhythms just are inconsistant and
many times non-existant.. (I am basing this all on WITBOAS..
I have no idea what else this guy is capable of, and I will
give him credit for the nymphomatriarch idea) to me there's
nothing cool about it, there's nothign new about it.. and
there's nothing interesting about it.. and he just seems
like a talentless non-artist that got away w/ a record deal
and a following because a lot of people just didn't know any
better

it was mike paradinas who traced him down after he heard a
track by him in a store (i read on the mu-board)

vs is not for everybody and it doesnt at all mean your
closeminded if you don't like him. to me he's on the very
top now, especially with witboas which i consider to be the
most interesting release in a very long time. the singing in
'she' is kinda dull but i dig that crazy movie quotes and i
also can't agree what you said about melodies in his work.
now that is what i think

there is a lot of music which does nothing for me, including
some boc aphex and squarepusher. well, as long as there are
the artists i like that's no problem. usually the dislikings
also are far more constant than what you like

man you know what I REALLY REALLY want?! a cd full of just
straightforward jungle club bangers like snares man was! the
squeak squeak cats and cheesy synth lines that's all great,
but i fucking love the stuff like good jungle, snares man!
is this some overdone style? because i need more and more
stuff that sounds like just his straight jungle hits! even
stuff like remarc you know i've heard, but he makes it sound
tame

I didn't like Snares much up until I saw his live video. I'd
heard a few songs off various albums but I wasn't into them,
preferring as a lot of you have said, Squarepusher. Then I
heard 'Find Candace' and that seemed to be the one for me
that made it click, now I can go back to his other stuff and
enjoy it. Haven't any of you ever had that with an artist?
You just need one track to "get" it and then you listen to
the stuff you didn't like before with renewed interest?
Because it's happened to me dozens of times. Keep trying.

I'm not abig fan- I like "Faust" and a couple of tracks
from Dolls dolls dolls, but as flea says, it does sound a
little forced. It is technically very good, but not the sort
of stuff I'd choose to listen to on a regular basis.

Following what Jar said, I may give find Candace a go...

I find VS to be very loopy music. Like he takes a beat and
loops it over and over, making minor changes each time. This
doesnt apply to all his songs tho. SOme of it is also almost
too hardcore for my liking.

Personally I think SP is better at the Drill stuff, but you
cant really compare the two as they have very different
styles.

squarepusher is loads better than vsnares, really
if you check the track "dismantling 5 years" on higgins
ultrafunkzksldskjsd you'll notice that for the first few
minutes its essentially nanou2 done on a synth instead of a
piano
