Sigur Ros : ( )

I found this album in the store the other day and it
intrigued me. No liner notes, track names... so I bought it
and I tell you... its beautiful. I havent heard an album
this nice in ages. Think of a mixture of Martin Grech,
Radiohead's Kid A, Pink Floyd and the (sadder) piano tracks
from Drukqs. Absolute bliss and deserves to be in anyone's
collection.

Yeah it's good but the "lyric" annoys

I tend to ignore the lyrics... the music speaks for itself..
:)

I can't decide which one is better,mainly becuase they're
different sounds alltogether.

The lyrics are the only flaw, otherwise that album is
just... aaaah, so damn pretty.

i saw them live about two weeks ago and i've gotta admit,
the show was very chilled out and there was some beautiful
moments, but for the last half hour i was constantly looking
at my watch, dying for it to finish.
theres not enough variation, if u know what i mean.

the lyrics!?
Lol, i didn't think anyone would actually be able to
understand them :-p

I certainly don't...

So what's wrong with them then? Just curious.

(beautiful beautiful album though! I haven't bought AB yet,
but ( ) is definitly awesome)

Sigur Rós are a band, daddy!

I'd say get Ágætis Byrjun first, but a lot of people seem
to prefer ()... So in conclusion, I don't know.

"morre as an extrra instrrument that anything."

and that bothers people? I thought it was rather nice that i
wasn't able to understand the lyrics... it leaves more room
for your own interpretation :-)

"they arre made up worrds."

Actually that is just a myth created by the press. I have a
buddy who studies icelandic, and he said he could perfectly
understand all the lyrics on AB. Some words were a little
strange here and there, but it certainly wasn't some strange
fictional language.

"but fake on the new one."

oh okay :-) didn't know that!

"Svefn-G-Englar "

i think "svefngenglar" means "sleepwalkers"... and "englar"
means "angel"... so the way they wrote that, it becomes a
combination of sleepwalkers and angels :-D I always liked
that... don't know about the chorus though...

i think everyone is annoyed by the fact that tracks 1, 4 8
have the identical words and damn near identical vocal
melody... .

do you think it's meant as one long piece or actually
seperate songs?

"tracks 1, 4 8 have the identical words"

i never noticed that... :-s

So it also never bothered me :-)

But i'll pay attention next time. I'd say it's not
necesarily a bad thing... sometimes repeating certain things
(in a different context) can work brilliantly.

Kid A? Err, no...

Anyway, this was the most disappointing album of 2002 for
me. As with 100th Window this year, () just doesn't stick in
my head at all, aside from the irritating lyric.

Agaetis Byrjun is a great album with tunes you can remember.
() is simply tedious.

oh my, I love this album... absolutely beautiful, and almost
perfect... I like it better then their first which I hardly
listen to... and the lyrics, well, it doesn't bother me at
all... just like an extra instrument to me anyways... it
doesn't get in the way cause I don't understand it... so,
like surrounded said, it's more open to my interpretation...
which I like...

I bought () on the release date, and I listened to it at
home, alone on a chair on grado headphones. I cried with
the first track. See, just now it gets me emotionnal. It's
the music I want to die with.

But yes, it's about the same lyric on *all* 8 tracks, the
same muted sentence that is deconstructed all along the
album.

and hearing people say they like AB but not ( ) to me is
like hearing you like please please me but not sgt pepper's.
i know it's subjective, but to me that's what it feels
like, like you're missing out, or just need to give it
another chance. it's so beautiful. exponential improvement
from their last effort. from a good band to masters of the
universe.

I'm icelandic and i can tell you that all of the songs on AB
are in icelandic except for maybe 2. It bothers me that they
don't sing in icelandic anymore. English could have been
good too, any words with meaning. if they think of jónsi's
voice as an extra "instrument" as they say, why not have it
in the background and not be so obvious? But i guess it
doesn't mean much to you guys.

Ampop's (icelandic band) new album "Made for market" sounds
like the second sigur rós album i would have wanted. Check
that one out, it's beautiful. sort of like Sigur Rós + IDM.
i'm uploading it on the ftp (u know the one) :)

Actually some lyrics are a mix of Icelantic,English and
Hopelantic.
Hopelantic was a language spoken many years ago which
origonates from Iceland.
Many people debates it's authenticity, because there is no
written text of it and a minority can speak it,but certain
words crop up throughout every language.
IMO I prefer not to know what is being sang, because I make
up the meanings each time I listen to their music, varying on
my present mood.
At my first listen they reminded me of RadioHead, but they're
in a totaly different league.Oh and the critics love them.

Oh and to get the soound the use on the guitar, use an e-bow
or a cello-bow across the strings. It makes a lovely sound.

About the comment that the same words, maybe the album is
like a "theme" or something...?

danbrusca> Yeh I made a mistake on the Kid A part but that
was only after hearing the () album once. Now that Ive
listened to it again I feel differently. Nothing like
Radiohead. ;)

look, hopelandish is not a language originated from
iceland!, and has never been "spoken" by anyone except
Jónsi. It was invented by him and has only be used by him.
Where did you hear such a ridicilous thing? Who lied to you?

i don't understand at all. don't you like the music? do
you need a story to keep your attention? why would you want
them to do anything other than they feel like doing?

regarding your questioning why jonsi's vocals are so
upfront, i think it's very obvious. for the same reason
jimi hendrix's guitar was upfront. jonsi's vocals are
extremely expressive and powerful. you'd rather he didn't
let all that expression out?
